My wife didn't stir, her body remaining still and unmoving. It was just me in the ward now. Charlotte had offered to take Noah back home to bathe and feed him. Juliette had gone with them, wanting to see the place Noah was found.
Archie offered to stay with me, but I wanted to be alone with Edwina. So he went down to the police station to probably sign some paperwork.
Thinking about my friends, I wondered what I would have done without them. If Charlotte hadn't slapped me, the pain dragging me from the unending pit I was in, maybe I would have lost my mind.
Maybe the hospital would have had me restrained and sent me to a psychiatric hospital. Maybe I would not even know who I was anymore.
