"Wait a minute," Dasha says, shaking her head as if clearing it. "You were kidnapped at gunpoint and held for a week before Sergio busted in like some action hero and saved you?"
"Yes," I say. "That is about right."
"The fuck, Ivie?" she snaps. "Why didn't you tell us?"
We are in my old room, which is where Alya is sleeping, with Dasha just on the other side of the hall. After the comment about the kidnapping during dinner, I decide to tell them the truth about Nikolai. "I didn't want you to worry."
"Why did this other mafia don kidnap you?" Alya asks, always the practical, level-headed one.
"He was trying to blackmail Sergio. I'm unsure what, but it sounded like a slice of the drug trade."
"Sergio deals drugs?"
This could not be a surprise to either of my sisters. "He imports them; other people deal with them, like our father."
"Are you shitting me?" Dasha asks. "I thought Papà just ran casinos and bank heists."
