Nova gave a small nod, his expression unreadable.
"Exactly. And if you're strong enough? You won't just survive Chaos Magic. You'll command it. But... there's a problem."
The shift in his tone was like a sudden drop in air pressure—subtle, but undeniable. The room fell into a tense hush.
Magneto's brow furrowed. Emma crossed her arms, posture stiffening. Wanda stopped fidgeting with her fingers, suddenly still. Pietro shifted slightly closer to her, protective instinct quietly taking over.
Magneto's voice cut through the silence, low and deliberate.
"What kind of problem?"
Nova raised a hand. A projection of Chaos Magic flared to life—crimson, volatile, shifting like a storm. The swirling mass began to warp, its hue darkening as the edges frayed like torn silk. A shape emerged from the chaos: hunched and grotesque, with elongated limbs and a jagged crown of horns twisting from a misshapen head. Even the energy around it seemed to recoil.
"His name," Nova said, voice like tempered steel, "is Chthon. An Elder God. The first known being to wield Chaos Magic—and its most dangerous corrupter."
A heavy silence followed, broken only by the faint hum of the projection.
Emma narrowed her eyes. "You said 'corrupter.' So... he didn't create it?"
Nova nodded. "No. He didn't. Chaos Magic—or the Chaos Force—has existed since near the beginning. Chthon was the first to bend it to his will. The Darkhold? Well you may not know it, its book soaked in his essence. Every spell from it frays reality, like threads being unraveled."
Wanda's body language shifted. Her focus sharpened.
Pietro folded his arms, voice tight. "So he's not just some ancient freak scribbling creepy spells in the shadows?"
Nova's gaze locked with his. "No. He's watching her. Right now."
Magneto's hands clenched. A faint crackle of magnetic energy filled the air.
"What?"
Nova continued, steady and firm. "He's known about Wanda for years. Maybe longer. She burns like a beacon in the Chaos Tapestry—unrefined, unbound. Everything he wants in a host… or a weapon."
Emma muttered a curse under her breath. "Of course. It's never just one damn cosmic force..."
Pietro's frustration rose. "So this bastard's just waiting to jump her like some demonic hitchhiker?"
Nova's expression darkened. "That's exactly what he's doing."
Chthon's image grew clearer. His burning red eyes pulsed like dying stars, seeming to peer through the room. A faint, almost subliminal whisper echoed in the air.
"Chthon doesn't knock. He doesn't ask. He waits—for grief. For rage. For a crack in your control. Chaos Magic is tied to emotion, and he knows how to twist that better than anyone."
Wanda exhaled slowly through her nose. Her fists were clenched, but her voice remained calm.
"So... he's a parasite."
Nova turned to her. "No. He's a god who believes the universe owes him everything. Especially you."
Magneto's voice turned to ice. "If he so much as thinks about my daughter—"
Nova met his gaze. "I believe you. But understand—he doesn't attack the body. He targets the soul."
Emma's voice softened, slightly. "How close is he? Don't sugarcoat it."
Nova's gaze was grim. "Closer than any of us are comfortable with. He doesn't need portals or spells. He infiltrates dreams. Emotional fractures. He's patient. He's been whispering into minds for millennia."
Pietro turned to Wanda. "Anything? Visions? Whispers?"
She shook her head. "No voices. But... pressure. Like something watching me when I let my guard down."
Nova nodded. "That's him. And the stronger you get, the brighter you burn to him. But don't mistake that for a weakness—it's leverage."
The room stilled.
Nova stepped forward, voice rising slightly.
"He wants you because you can command the Chaos he twists. But if you master it—truly understand it—you become the one thing he fears: someone he can't control."
A small, resolute smile touched Wanda's lips. "Then let's give him something to fear."
Pietro grinned. "That's my sister."
Magneto nodded, fury simmering into cold determination. "Let him come. We'll be ready."
Emma exhaled with dry irritation. "Of course. Just another Tuesday—ancient god trying to hijack someone's soul."
Nova allowed a small smile before turning back to the projection. With a flick of his hand, Chthon's image dispersed into a mist of crimson energy.
Then Pietro asked, cutting through the silence, "Wait—if this guy's so powerful, why hasn't he just shown up already?"
Nova tilted his head. "Because... they're forbidden."
Wanda arched a brow. "Meaning?"
Nova smirked faintly. "Entities like Chthon, Mephisto, and the rest—they're not allowed to enter this universe. At least, not directly."
Magneto leaned forward. "This universe? Are you saying they exist outside of it? And who made that rule?"
Nova's tone turned light—intentionally evasive.
"Let's just say... that's not a question covered in Wanda's contract."
Pietro groaned. "Oh, come on..."
Nova chuckled. "Curious? I might offer answers—for the right price."
He looked at Magneto, tone sly now.
"Why don't you all let me scan your DNA? I will give you full information on these Dimensional lords and more."
Internally, Nova grinned. With their genetic data, he could unlock other alien transformations those have similar abilites to them. Like Xlerate or Gravattack or something. He can even add these X-gene abilities to the trade panel for future exchanges.
Magneto didn't hesitate.
"Absolutely not."
Pietro looked like he wanted to say yes—but shut his mouth when Magneto shot him a glare.
Nova shrugged, still smiling. "Fair enough. In any case, our agreement is complete. I've explained Wanda's mutation and her Chaos potential—and in return, she now has lifetime access to the Interdimensional Library."
The others nodded. Wanda added, "And I let you scan my DNA."
Nova smiled.
Then Magneto asked, "One more thing. You're clearly trying to establish yourself as some sort of interdimensional broker. So what other services do you offer?"
Nova's grin widened. "Plenty. I'll do anything—for the right price. If I like the job, I accept. If I don't, I pass. But my most important feature? The Quest Function."
Pietro blinked. "The what now?"
Nova nodded. "You can issue quests through the Omni-Dex—don't judge the name. Only those who've traded with me gets Omni-Dex. Like Emma, who bought items. Or Wanda, thanks to our contract."
Emma asked, "So we can issue quests, and others with the Omni-Dex can accept them?"
Nova nodded again.
Pietro's eyes lit up. "Wait—does that mean Harry Potter can issue quests too? Since you've traded with him?"
Nova's grin returned. "Exactly. If he posts a quest, you can accept it. Or post your own—and he might take it. But be warned: two payments are required. One as a reward for completing the quest, and one as my fee."
Pietro muttered under his breath, "Freakin' interdimensional money grubber..."
Nova just smirked.
"Welcome to the economy of chaos."
