Things seemed to have settled into a perfect rhythm for Gia, Adrian, and Mia. The trio spent most of their free time together, sharing jokes, studying, and indulging in Mia's love for trying out random cafes in the city. Adrian had become an almost permanent fixture in their lives, much to Gia's relief and happiness.
Ethan, however, was far from happy. Each time he saw them together, whether laughing in the school hallway or sitting at their usual table at lunch, his jealousy flared. Gia was his, even if she didn't realize it yet. He told himself that her little fling with Adrian was just a phase. Eventually, she'd come back to him, begging for forgiveness.
In Ethan's twisted mind, the thought brought a grim sense of satisfaction. She'd be his again—it was only a matter of time.
The final weeks of senior year loomed large, marked by a bittersweet mix of excitement and nostalgia. Prom was just around the corner, signaling the end of their high school lives and the beginning of something new.
Mia, always the planner, had been talking about prom nonstop for weeks. Gia had initially been hesitant about attending—dances weren't really her thing. But when Adrian had asked her to be his date, the shy smile on his face made it impossible for her to say no.
So here they were, walking into the bustling mall on a mission to find the perfect dresses.
The mall was alive with activity, the hum of shoppers filling the air as bright displays advertised sales and the latest trends. Mia led the way, her eyes scanning the windows of every boutique they passed.
"We are not leaving this mall until we find the dresses," Mia declared with determination.
"Mia, it's just prom," Gia said with a small laugh, trailing behind her.
"Just prom?" Mia turned to her, aghast. "Girl, it's our last high school dance! We have to slay."
Gia shook her head, smiling. She knew there was no point in arguing with Mia when she was in one of her moods.
The first shop they entered was filled with glittering gowns of every color imaginable. Mia immediately dove into the racks, pulling out options and holding them up to Gia.
"What about this one?" she asked, holding up a shimmering gold dress.
Gia wrinkled her nose. "Too much sparkle."
Mia sighed dramatically and moved on, while Gia began to browse on her own. She ran her fingers over the soft fabrics, admiring the intricate beadwork on some of the gowns.
After what felt like an eternity of searching, Mia let out a triumphant shout. "Found it!"
Gia turned to see Mia holding up a stunning red ball gown. The bodice was fitted with delicate lace detailing, and the skirt flowed out in a cascade of tulle.
"This is the one," Mia said confidently.
Gia had to admit, the dress was perfect for Mia. "You'll look amazing in that."
"Obviously," Mia said with a grin. "Now, let's find yours."
It didn't take long for Gia to find her own dress. Tucked away in a corner of the store, she spotted a pale pink gown that immediately caught her eye. It was simple but elegant, with an off-the-shoulder neckline and a flowing chiffon skirt.
Mia clapped her hands in delight when Gia showed it to her. "That's it! You're going to look like a princess."
Gia blushed. "You think so?"
"I know so. Adrian's jaw is going to hit the floor when he sees you in this."
Gia laughed, but the thought made her heart race a little.
The next hour was spent in the fitting rooms, trying on their chosen dresses and twirling in front of the mirrors. Mia was in her element, posing dramatically and flipping her hair over her shoulder. Gia, on the other hand, felt a little self-conscious at first but eventually relaxed under Mia's encouragement.
"You look stunning, Gia," Mia said sincerely as Gia stepped out of the fitting room in her pink dress.
Gia smiled, her cheeks tinged with pink to match the gown. "Thanks, Mia."
After purchasing their dresses, the girls made their way to the food court for a much-needed break. They sipped on smoothies and chatted about their plans for prom night.
"Are you nervous?" Mia asked, nudging Gia with her elbow.
"A little," Gia admitted. "It's kind of a big deal, isn't it?"
"It is," Mia agreed. "But don't overthink it. Just have fun. And remember, you're going with Adrian, who clearly adores you."
Gia smiled, feeling a little more at ease.
As they finished their drinks and prepared to head home, Gia felt a sense of excitement bubbling up inside her. Prom was going to be a night to remember, and for the first time, she was looking forward to it.
