The ride home was quiet.
Raelynn sat in the passenger seat, staring out the window as the late afternoon sunlight cast long golden streaks over the road. The warmth of the sun should have been comforting, but her mind was too preoccupied to enjoy it.
She still felt shy—no, mortified—about what had happened earlier.
Kade had walked in on them.
Again.
She groaned internally, pressing her fingers against her forehead.
The first time had been awkward enough. Kade had caught her and Elion in a somewhat intimate situation before, and now, history had repeated itself. This time, it was even worse—Kade had come in to deliver some files, only to find her and Elion asleep together.
On the same bed.
In each other's arms.
Raelynn squeezed her eyes shut, wishing she could disappear. What must Kade think of her now? That she was reckless? Improper? That she and Elion were—
She shook her head, cheeks burning.
No, no, no. It wasn't like that.
