The line of nine people quietly moved through the shadows of the buildings, making as little noise as possible. From time to time, a flock of bird-like creatures skimmed across the sky, but they flew too high to notice Chen Ke and the rest.
Diana lay sprawled across Chen Ke's back, her right arm encircling his neck and her left stuffed into the jacket, with her head resting on his left shoulder. Her curly, chestnut hair draped over Chen Ke's left chest.
At first, she managed the occasional conversation with Chen Ke, but she soon drifted into deep sleep, her breaths coming in soft huffs.
Sam was terrified that Diana might just sleep to death, but Chen Ke wasn't worried; the woman was tough and hardy, a few cuts on her muscles weren't enough to kill her.
It was true that Diana had lost a considerable amount of blood and her body temperature was a bit low, especially since she was dressed rather lightly: the jacket was empty, with nothing beneath it but her underwear and bandages.
