Ava glared a bit, taking a second to look at Alaric's unconscious body and then at the Duchess, who was still on the ground.
If only someone could walk through those doors—a knight, anyone. She could use that as a means to take Alaric to safety.
Even though she didn't fully understand what was going on and why Hina was suddenly acting the way she was, she knew Alaric's safety was her top priority.
The fact that none of Alaric's summons had appeared was just as concerning.
"Whatever it is you're plotting, it's of no use. It's not going to work," Hina uttered.
This made Ava look at her, almost disgusted but also a bit puzzled.
"I still don't understand why you're doing this. Why poison him because some goddess said so? It doesn't make any sense."
"My reasons are for me alone. Lord Alaric is under my care. You can rest assured your duties end here, Ava Isenberg. I'll handle whatever is to come."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
