Chapter 250 - Chapter 249: The Nightscape of Inazuma City

After parting ways with Kitsune Saiguu, Yu Xie returned to Yae Publishing House.

By the time he finished helping Yae Miko review the drafts and left, the sky had already darkened.

The streets were bustling with people, and the golden sunset bathed the roads.

Yu Xie slowed his pace as he walked along the grayish-blue cobblestone path, and at that moment, he noticed a familiar figure nearby.

A beautiful oni girl had hidden the oni mark on her forehead, sitting in front of a ramen stall.

The girl was waiting for her ramen, looking a bit bored.

Yu Xie stopped and turned, walking over to sit next to her.

"Boss, give me a bowl of ramen," he said.

Hearing Yu Xie's voice, Chiyo turned her head, a little surprised.

"Yu Xie? What are you doing here?"

"I happened to pass by and saw you, and suddenly felt like having some ramen."

"Happened to pass by, huh..." Chiyo pouted. "You and Yae Miko must have had a pretty good time today, right?"

Her words made Yu Xie freeze.

He hadn't expected that Chiyo would know he went to Yae Publishing House today.

Yu Xie felt helpless. Sometimes, he really thought of himself as a man full of sins...

"I... mainly went to help Yae Miko review some drafts," Yu Xie said helplessly.

"Then what happened after you finished reviewing the drafts?" Chiyo pressed, "Was it just a private moment between you and Yae Miko?"

Chiyo's sentence seemed unfinished when the ramen stall owner placed a steaming bowl of ramen in front of her, momentarily diverting her attention.

Looking at the ramen, which looked quite appetizing, Chiyo's gaze flickered slightly.

Then, she hesitated for a moment.

"I also want to spend time alone with you..."

Her voice was very soft, and Yu Xie didn't catch the words clearly, but he got the gist of it.

Yu Xie was slightly stunned, knowing that he had to respond in this moment.

However, just as he was about to speak, Chiyo picked up her chopsticks and began eating the ramen, not giving him a chance to talk.

It was as if she was afraid, afraid that Yu Xie might reject her.

Seeing this, Yu Xie thought for a moment and then slowly spoke:

"Aren't we already alone right now, just the two of us?"

Chiyo's movement paused suddenly as she ate, a faint blush spreading across her cheeks.

She didn't respond, continuing to quietly eat her ramen.

Soon, Yu Xie's ramen was served as well, and he didn't say much either.

Just like that, the two sat side by side at the ramen stall under the sunset, quietly eating their noodles.

By the time they finished their meals, the sky had completely darkened.

The streetlights flickered, and the whole of Inazuma City was bathed in a soft glow.

After paying, the two walked together without a word, a silent understanding between them.

Many people on the street recognized Chiyo, greeting her with a bow, and Chiyo smiled in response.

However, very few recognized Yu Xie, the former Commander of the Okuzumeshuu.

The story of the legendary former Commander of the Okuzumeshuu is recorded in many books and documents. However, it is said that portraits and images of the Commander are only kept by the Shogun.

So, it was only natural that few people recognized Yu Xie.

While this was fine with him, as he preferred not to be recognized, he also welcomed the anonymity.

Yu Xie and Chiyo walked slowly, and though Chiyo didn't speak, a faint smile lingered on her lips, and her eyes shone with a certain gleeful emotion.

She still remembered clearly that during the Khaenri'ah War, when she was tainted by the aura of the beasts, if it hadn't been for Yu Xie, she would have lost her self-awareness and become no different from those monsters.

It was Yu Xie who saved her, and as a result, she held him in her heart.

Centuries had passed, but that feeling had never wavered.

Of course, Chiyo also knew that she was not the only one who held such feelings.

She also knew that everyone's feelings were genuine.

In fact, after hundreds of years of reflection, she no longer minded.

The fact that Yu Xie had returned was the best outcome.

Chiyo recalled the scenes from the Khaenri'ah War, and without realizing it, she turned her head to look at Yu Xie. She stared at him for a long time, even unaware that her gaze had not shifted.

"What's wrong? Is there something on my face? Did I get some soup on me from the ramen earlier?" Yu Xie, slightly confused, wiped his face.

It was only then that Chiyo snapped back to reality. She hurriedly turned her head away, a faint blush appearing on her beautiful face. Flustered, she stammered:

"N-nothing..."

People came and went, and the lights shone brightly.

The two of them wandered through the streets for a while. At times, Chiyo seemed like a child in front of Yu Xie—sometimes she would stop in front of a stall, unable to move her legs as she gazed at the items for sale.

However, when Yu Xie offered to buy her something, Chiyo politely declined.

She said it wasn't necessary.

But, while Chiyo wasn't paying attention, Yu Xie secretly bought her a hairpin. After all, when Chiyo saw the hairpin, the light in her eyes had shone brightly.

Time passed by, and before they knew it, it was getting late.

Chiyo realized that perhaps it was time to part ways.

Good times always passed quickly like this.

She walked ahead, then stopped, her smile hiding a hint of reluctance.

"Alright, let's call it a day here."

"This is for you." Yu Xie took out the hairpin.

The delicate hairpin had finely carved patterns, looking beautiful and exquisite.

"This is..." Chiyo was a bit surprised when she saw the hairpin.

"You clearly wanted it when you saw it earlier, right?" Yu Xie smiled, gently taking Chiyo's hand and placing the hairpin in it.

Chiyo stood still for a moment, feeling the weight of the hairpin in her hand, her emotions mixing together.

"I told you it wasn't necessary, there was no need to buy it..."

"But you really like it, right? I can tell." Yu Xie smiled and said, "Take it."

"…Mm, I'll make sure to treasure it." After a long pause, Chiyo held the hairpin to her chest, a faint smile on her lips as she softly spoke.

The two parted ways for now. Chiyo went back, and Yu Xie continued on his way home.

It was getting late, and the crowds on the streets were fewer than before. However, the lights were still bright. Inazuma City only dimmed its lights deep into the night.

As he turned a corner, Yu Xie saw a familiar figure.

A purple-clad silhouette stood in the night, facing away from him, as though waiting for him or lost in the distant nightscape.

"Ei?" Yu Xie called her name and slowly walked over.

"I thought you'd be taking this route back, so I decided to wait here for you." Ei turned around.

"Is there something you need?"

"No real business, just..." Ei looked at Yu Xie and paused, "That you'll be leaving Inazuma soon, so I wanted to spend some time with you."

Upon hearing this, Yu Xie was momentarily stunned, then he smiled gently.

"In that case, how about we go grab some late-night snacks?"
