True to their word, the cops came sniffing around the mansion. It was three days after the news of Ivan's death broke when they finally showed up.
I wasn't surprised. If anything, I'd been preparing for their visit, mentally, at least. Rowan was right, I had to get my story straight.
Rudolf led them to my office, and his body language was anything but welcoming. Two officers followed, both dressed in plain clothes.
They introduced themselves as Detectives Hanson and Brewer.
"Alpha Soren," Hanson began, "We'd like to ask you a few questions, if that's alright."
I nodded, gesturing for them to sit. "Of course. What's this about?"
Hanson didn't answer immediately. Instead, he exchanged a glance with his partner before looking at Rowan and Rudolf, who stood at either side of me like silent sentinels.
They took their protective roles too seriously. Rudolf almost tore his hair out when Rowan told him that I had fainted. It was so funny seeing Rudolf act like that.
