Rowan
I forced my breathing to remain shallow as the nurse checked my vitals. To her, I was sleeping but I wasn't.
I was wide awake with my brain working like clog. I was supposed to have been discharged yesterday but I wasn't about to leave here.
Nobody would question the patient in the hospital. The moment she turned her back, I made my move.
As soon as the door slammed shut behind her, I yanked the IV from my arm. A sharp sting burned at my skin, but I ignored it. Pain meant nothing when there was work to be done.
I slid on my jacket, adjusting the hood over my face, and crept toward the door. Peeking into the hallway, I scanned both directions. Empty.
Perfect.
Slipping through the door, I walked briskly but calmly toward the exit. Running would only attract attention. I strolled past the reception desk without sparing a glance.
The cold night air hit my face as I stepped outside. I hailed an Uber, my stolen money from Soren tucked safely in my pocket. He wouldn't miss it.
