"Hmm, what happened?" Samuel wondered to himself when he woke up a quarter after noon only to realize, he was no longer in the living room but in a bedroom.
He coughed, expelling the final remnants of the sleeping gas from his body.
"What have I gotten myself into now?" he asked himself as he scanned the unknown bedroom.
"Oww...my head is ringing!" he groaned in pain suddenly, holding his head in his hand, and proceeding to massage the space between his eyes.
The last thing he could remember was the notification on the game console that read 'GAME OVER'.
Still wondering how he ended up in this room, he took a glance around the room, ending with a glance at the wall clock.
"Mom and Dad will probably be wondering where I am", he said to himself as he hopped off the bed.
He wobbled a little as he tried to stabilize himself. He took a deep breath to clear the dizziness in his head.
"I need to find out where I am and find my way out", he said as he tiptoed to the cool-looking door.
He found and pressed a button near the door and it slid open automatically.
He stuck his head out cautiously; listening for any movements and sniffing around for any recognizable scents.
Smelling nothing unusual and sensing no one in the hallway, he traced and followed the familiar scent of the living room he had been in before and cautiously ran towards it.
He soon arrived at the living room only to find a man sitting in a sofa adjacent him operating a laptop computer.
The man was a well built, five foot nine gentleman with a pair of glasses on his moderately handsome face. His appearance was that of a man in his early thirties.
Beyond all that, if he could tell one thing out of everything; this man sitting before him was an extremely dangerous person.
Samuel froze instantly after spotting the man. He didn't know whether it was out of pure instinct; he just knew.
Realizing he had yet to be spotted, Samuel grew confident in his luck and ability to successfully escape. He began to tiptoe over to the exit.
Halfway there, the man noticed him. "Ah! So, you are finally awake", he called out after making eye contact with him.
Samuel, by instinct, jumped several feet back and wrapped his body securely in his wings, shielding himself from any possible attacks.
'I seriously messed up. Where's he from? Military... FBI... CIA...wherever he's from, I'm in serious trouble', he thought to himself in a panic.
"That's good, your fight or flight senses are active and in full gear. Fear not, Samuel, you are in no danger here", the man said, trying to help Samuel relax.
'How did he know my name?' Samuel wondered to himself.
"Are you surprised that I know your name? Well, don't be. I probably know more about you than you do yourself", the doctor informed him.
"Are you the one who has been spying on me these past months?" Samuel asked in realization.
"I am. Your senses really are incredible. No matter the method I use to observe you, you always manage to sniff me out. My name is Dr. Emmanuel Michelson, the director of the Sienna Institute for Genetic Research and Analysis", he paused and took a breath.
"First of all, I must offer my sincere apologies to you", he said with a small bow.
"Apologies...what for?" Samuel asked perplexed.
"Years ago, I led a team of extraordinarily gifted scientists in an experiment to create the ultimate life form, and you are the result of that experiment. Long story short, I am responsible for what you are now".
"As you are now, you possess a myriad of abilities and skills: your superhuman strength, wings, sharp eye sight, wave senses, fire and ice breath, melting stare, hypnosis, claws and dragon metamorphosis, these are all as a result of my team and I tinkering with your very humanity".
"I'm sure there are others that are yet to manifest but they would most likely show up as you grow", Emmanuel explained.
Samuel was baffled, most of the abilities mentioned he had never shown or performed before. He then recalled what the man before said and started getting angry.
"Wait! So, you mean to say I was born like this because of you? YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT YOU RUINED MY PARENTS' HAPPINESS ALL FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR EXPERIMENT?!" Samuel roared, a dangerous glint flashing in his eyes, his wings opening up unconsciously in a threatening manner.
The current tension in the room could be sliced with a butter knife.
"Indeed, I apologize, but, calm yourself and try to recall; when have you seen your parents portraying any sense of being unhappy with your birth? They seem to like you just fine as is", Emmanuel reminded him, staying calm even in the midst of the murderous intent leaking unconsciously out of the ten year old child before him.
"I guess you are right. I'm sorry for shouting", Samuel apologized as he took a deep breath and sighed, pondering a little more.
He lowered his wings as he retracted his claws and fangs that had revealed themselves during his emotional outburst.
"Now, with that out of the way, I think it's time you got to know yourself better", the doctor announced.
"Know myself! What do you mean by that?" Samuel asked confused.
"Haven't you ever wondered what creature you are?" he asked. "Yes, I've been wondering that for years but we've never been able to identify exactly what I am", Samuel responded.
"A quote from Toni Collete says, 'the better you know yourself, the better your relationship with the rest of the world'. If you remain ignorant of your true nature, you could one day wind up endangering yourself and those around you", the doctor referred.
"Don't I know it. I've had a few hiccups a long the way. Fortunately, as far as I can tell, no one has died or been seriously injured", Samuel said in recollection but Emmanuel cringed, knowing the number of corpses left in the wake of Samuel's rampage.
Deciding to keep this matter a secret for now, he returned to the conversation.
"Beyond all reasonable doubt, You are a Dragon! The first of your kind and the only one currently in existence, as far as we know", he announced to the dazed little dragon boy.
"A dragon? I thought the existence of dragons was rooted in myth... fictional beings told in fairy tales and stories", Samuel said.
"That's just what people are made to believe, but we know different from all our research over the years. There are several creatures in existence, naturally or artificially born, terrestrial or extra-terrestrial", Emmanuel informed.
"By extra-terrestrial, do you mean aliens?" Samuel asked with an excited glint in his eyes.
"Yeah, I'm sure you will come across quite a few in the near future", he said.
"I can't wait", Samuel said as he jumped in excitement.
