The spring forest outside Xian Town whispered with life. Birdsong threaded through the trees, interrupted only by the occasional crack of gunfire and shouts of excitement. Gu Li An stood atop a moss-covered rock, observing the chaos below with arms crossed and a faint smirk on her face. The soldiers under her command were acting more like mischievous children than the elite fighting force they were supposed to be, but for once, she allowed it.
"This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen," muttered Quartermaster Gou Lan, pushing up his glasses and wincing as Captain Zhao fired another shot into a tree, startling a flock of birds into the air.
"You say that, but you're smiling," Instructor Bai Yu teased, his arms folded behind his back as he surveyed the test.
"That's because I still have both ears intact," Gou Lan replied.
Li An chuckled, brushing a lock of her long, dark hair away from her face.
