Amelia held her head and took a deep breath. "I… I just want to rest," she said softly.
Mrs. Wolfe nodded and turned to Dawson. "Take her home, dear. She needs to lie down."
Dawson gently touched Amelia's back. "Come on. Let's go."
They said goodbye to Mrs. Wolfe, and Dawson opened the car door for Amelia. The drive was quiet. Dawson kept glancing at her, but she just stared out the window, lost in her thoughts.
When they reached home, Amelia didn't say a word. She went straight to the room and laid on the bed.
Dawson followed and sat beside her. He reached out and held her hand.
She looked at him, her eyes tired. "You said you love me?"
He looked back at her, not blinking. "Yes. I meant it."
She frowned. "You just said that so your mom would believe it, right?"
He shook his head. "No, Amelia. I didn't say it for her. I said it because it's true."
She stared at him for a moment. "Then tell me… what do you want in a wife?"
