Chapter 51 - Chapter 50: Nami's illness

Usopp and Luffy were celebrating that they were going to the land of the Giants, Elbaf, seeming to have forgotten what had just happened.

"Well, they really have a lot of energy. I feel very tired after everything that happened. Vivi, can you check the direction?" Nami asked as she handed her the Eternal Pose.

Vivi stared at the Eternal Pose Nami handed her, thinking about her kingdom.

'So the insect stung Nami too. For a second, I thought it would skip her since her clothes weren't destroyed,' Oliver thought while looking at Nami.

"Now you'll finally be able to return to Alabasta," Nami said to Vivi with a smile. "Well, that depends on whether we reach Alabasta without any incidents."

"Yes... I have to go home. I have to save my country," Vivi said, remembering Igaram. "I must reach Alabasta alive."

"Don't feel so bad, Vivi-chan. I'm right here!!" Sanji said with a plate full of sweets. "Would you like a little treat? What would you like to drink? Coffee or tea?"

Luffy and Usopp were drooling over the food Sanji was offering the women.

"Yours is in the kitchen," Sanji told them.

Both of them rushed off to get their food.

Zoro was training with some giant weights, totally focused.

Oliver was checking if he had a fever or sore throat, but he didn't feel anything like that.

'For now, I'm fine,' he thought with a bit of relief.

At that moment, he saw Nami collapse to the ground, which meant the effects had started.

"Everyone!! Come quickly!" Vivi shouted.

Everyone came running and saw Nami on the floor.

"Nami-san has a terrible fever!!" Vivi cried.

"We need to take her inside," Oliver said, picking her up in his arms, though he felt his arm wasn't moving right, but he ignored it. "Let's go."

They took her to the women's room and laid her on one of the beds.

"Usopp-san, we need a cloth and water," Vivi said.

"Right away," Usopp quickly ran off to get what was needed.

"Her fever keeps rising," Oliver said, touching her forehead, though he could barely feel it. 'Maybe not feeling heat isn't such a good thing.'

"I've got it!" Usopp said as he arrived.

They placed the wet cloths on her forehead to try and lower her temperature.

"Nami-san's not going to die, right?! Right, Vivi-san?!" Sanji cried.

"It was probably the weather. The only barrier that no sailor on the Grand Line is safe from crossing!" Vivi said. "Even the fiercest pirate from any other sea could die from an illness."

"First, let's focus on lowering her temperature," Oliver told them.

"Hey, but if she eats some meat, she'll get better, right, Sanji?" Luffy asked.

Sanji explained to Luffy that he gave Nami and Vivi the best food they had, so they were perfectly nourished, and there was nothing more he could do for her.

"40 degrees?! Her temperature is still rising!" Vivi said.

"There'll be doctors when we reach Alabasta, right? How long do you think it'll take to get there?" Usopp asked.

"I don't know, but we might make it in a week!" Vivi said.

"Is illness really that serious?" Luffy asked.

"I don't know, I've never had one," Sanji and Usopp said.

"If Nami's temperature keeps rising, she'll die," Oliver explained.

"NAMI'S GOING TO DIE?!" Luffy yelled, worried.

"NAMI-SAN, DON'T DIE!!" Sanji shouted, crying.

Usopp and Karoo were screaming around the room, which was starting to annoy Vivi.

"Quiet! And stop running around!" Vivi shouted at them.

"We have to find a doctor and save Nami!!" Luffy told her.

"I understand! But please, calm down," Vivi said, trying to soothe him.

"No, you mustn't..." Nami said.

Nami sat up a little, making Luffy happy, thinking she was okay.

"There's a newspaper in the drawer of the desk," Nami said.

Vivi looked at the newspaper, which stated that 300,000 imperial soldiers from Alabasta had joined the rebels. This made Vivi extremely worried.

"Now the rebellion in Alabasta will move at full speed. That newspaper is from a few days ago. I'm sorry... even if I had shown it to you, we couldn't have gone any faster, and I didn't want to cause you any worry. That's why I hid it," said Nami. "Do you understand, Luffy?"

"It seemed like something serious," said Luffy.

"Yeah, well, you understood it better than I thought," Nami replied.

"But if we don't find a doctor soon..." said Usopp, worried about Nami's temperature.

"I'm fine, that thermometer is broken. No one could survive with a 40-degree fever—it must be heatstroke." She got out of bed to head to the surface, but was stopped by Oliver.

"Nami, don't pretend you're fine. It's written all over your face. It's better if you stay in bed," Oliver told her, trying to keep her in the room to rest.

"Alright, I don't need a doctor. So let's head straight to Alabasta as we planned. Thank you all for worrying about me," Nami said gratefully to everyone.

Nami left the room and started scolding Zoro for not following the Eternal Pose.

Everyone heard Zoro being scolded, so they all left—everyone except Vivi and Oliver, who stayed in the room.

"You look really worried," said Oliver.

Vivi was in a sort of trance, staring at the newspaper and thinking about her kingdom's suffering because of Baroque Works.

"So, what do you want to do?" Oliver asked, sitting next to her. "Do you want to go directly, or do you want to treat Nami?"

Vivi snapped out of the trance and looked at Oliver.

"What?" Vivi asked, not having heard him.

"I asked you what you want to do," he repeated.

"I need to get to my kingdom as soon as possible to stop them," Vivi said. "But Nami is sick."

Oliver thought about what would happen if Vivi decided to go straight to Alabasta.

"So, do you want to go to Alabasta right away and find a doctor for Nami there, or do you want to find an island to heal Nami as soon as possible and then go at full speed thanks to her?" Oliver asked.

Vivi thought about what to do for a few seconds.

"To go faster, we need Nami, so she has to recover," said Vivi, getting out of bed and setting the newspaper aside. "And I won't let someone who's helping me suffer because of my wish."

"Good choice," said Oliver.

While the two were in the room, Nami had already given orders to everyone to turn the rudder south because, according to her, a hurricane was approaching.

Then Vivi came out with Oliver and climbed up so that everyone could see her.

"I have something to ask all of you. I know I'm saying this after you've already let me board this ship with you, but my country is facing a terrible fate, and I want to hurry and get there," Vivi said, worried about her homeland. "That's why we can't delay it in any way. So I want to steer this ship to Alabasta at maximum speed."

"Of course. We promised you," Nami said with a smile.

"So let's find an island with a doctor. We have to cure Nami-san's illness as soon as possible, and then we can head to Alabasta at full speed, right?!" said Vivi with determination.

"You're right! With Nami, we'll go much faster!" said Luffy with a smile.

"I'm sorry, Vivi. I really do think I'm sick," said Nami, barely able to stand.

Just then, Luffy let out a loud shout because a giant hurricane was right where they had been heading.

"We have to head south! To find a doctor!" shouted Vivi.

Everyone shouted in agreement and then went to take Nami back to her room to monitor her temperature as they set off to find a doctor.

That same night, Oliver decided to stay awake and keep watch over the Going Merry while the others rested.

Oliver made sure everyone was asleep and then got ready to train.

"I guess I'll have to try this."

He took the remains of the Sea King and set them up so they wouldn't fall over.

He began punching the remains with all his strength, which caused him pain.

'I have to become stronger.'

He kept striking the remains over and over until he felt sharp pain in his right hand, so he stopped.

'I have to become stronger.'

He looked at his hand—it turned out he had dislocated a finger from hitting wrong, so he popped it back into place.

'Stronger.'

And then he started punching again.

'Much stronger!!'
