"No, you go to middle school, to university, to become a doctor. Don't you want to be a doctor?"
"Uh-huh." Ning Xiang nodded with tears, "Is that when I'm as old as Dad?"
"Older than Dad."
Ning Xiang's heart finally felt a bit more settled. If he'd be older than his dad was, that would mean his dad would be older than Grandpa. That really was a very long time. He thought for a moment and seriously said, "When I'm as old as Dad, I'll protect Dad."
"Okay." He wiped away all of Ning Xiang's tears, "Shall we go home now?"
"Uh-huh!" Ning Xiang nodded vigorously.
Ning Xiang returned to his seat. Although he had been given a dose of reassurance from his dad, he was still less lively than before, sitting obediently, his expression revealing worries beyond his years.
Ning Zhiqian saw it and knew this was going to be a long-term project, something that couldn't be fixed in a short while.
