This "big shot" was introduced by Vice Chairman Vaughan, and although Vaughn was just a Vice Chairman of the Dock Workers' Union, he held a high status in the eyes of these business people who relied on the dock.
With just a phone call, Vaughn could cause them a significant financial loss, and they did not wish to offend him.
So even though Manager Lenny was reluctant to meet with a family leader, he came anyway.
Lance raised his hand slightly and shook it, "I have to thank Vaughn for his praise. I asked him to arrange this meeting because I have a business deal I want to discuss with you."
Manager Lenny remained in his usual demeanor, "Can I know what it is now?"
"I wouldn't want anyone else to know about our conversation today, whether we can collaborate or not."
