Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: To the Rescue

"Kid, let go of the old captain immediately, or don't blame us for being rude!"

"Hands on your head, squat down quickly!"

"You dare harm the old captain? You must be tired of living!"

The black-clad men surrounded Ye Fei and shouted loudly.

However, none of them dared to act recklessly. After all, the old man's identity was special, and their primary task was to ensure his safety.

At this moment, Ye Fei had just finished devouring the evil spirit and was sensing the transformation of energy within his body.

Suddenly interrupted by these people, his brows furrowed instantly.

For some reason, even as he stared at the ominous black gun barrels, Ye Fei felt no fear.

In the past, he would have been scared to tears, but now he only felt annoyance—an anger born of ants disturbing him!

What Ye Fei didn't realize was that, after absorbing the memories of the Soul-controlling Demon, his own psyche had been affected to some extent.

Imagine the magnitude of the Soul-controlling Demon's identity; possessing his memories had naturally imbued Ye Fei with the Demon's arrogance!

So, Ye Fei snorted coldly, and in an instant, an invisible force radiated from around him.

The black-clad men immediately felt dizzy and light-headed, toppling to the ground one by one.

In just a brief moment, the area around Ye Fei was littered with collapsed bodies.

"You... What did you do to them? You... What kind of monster are you?" The woman stared at the fallen black-clad men, her mouth agape in shock.

"Monster?"

Ye Fei sneered, "You've attacked multiple times, and I let it slide. You've been repeatedly impolite, and I didn't care. Now, I save your grandfather in good faith, and you accuse me of harming him. Tell me, how should I deal with you?"

As Ye Fei spoke, he moved toward the woman.

With each step he took, his voice grew louder. By the time he stood before her, his tone was like a sonic blast, exploding directly in her ears and causing her face to turn pale as she trembled and knelt to the ground.

But at this moment, the nearby man finally spoke respectfully, "Lord, the young lady is inexperienced and reckless. She meant no offense. Still, she is the old captain's granddaughter and has a special status. Please reconsider!"

"Special status? Are you threatening me?" Ye Fei's gaze turned cold as he fixed it on the man.

Facing Ye Fei's eyes, beads of sweat instantly appeared on the man's forehead.

He was an elite from the military, someone who could face lions and tigers without flinching.

Yet, under Ye Fei's gaze, a fear rose from the depths of his soul, rendering him incapable of meeting those eyes directly.

This was the aura of the Cultivator!

"Hmm? What's happening to me?"

Amid this tense standoff, a feeble voice suddenly sounded. The old man slowly shook his head and began to sit up.

"Grandfather? You've awakened?"

"Old captain?"

The woman and man, seeing the old man regain consciousness, cried out in ecstatic surprise.

"What is this..."

The old man stood up after hearing their exclamations but frowned deeply as he noticed the collapsed black-clad men around him. "What... What happened here?"

"It's... It's all him! Grandfather, he did this!" The woman quickly pointed at Ye Fei as she spoke.

Ye Fei's doing?

Hearing this, the old man barely hesitated before shouting, "Nonsense! How could a great figure act rashly for no reason? Liu Shan, explain—what exactly happened here?"

Liu Shan, the man in question, hurriedly replied, "Old captain, you suddenly fainted just now, and this gentleman immediately intervened to help. Then the bodyguards came forward, and the young lady..."

"Enough, I understand!"

The old man waved his hand to interrupt, then stepped forward and said to Ye Fei with cupped hands, "Thank you, master, for saving me. My granddaughter is unruly; I beg your forgiveness! If you have any complaints, I apologize on her behalf!"

As he spoke, the old man prepared to bow in salute.

Seeing this, Ye Fei's icy expression instantly softened, and he quickly stepped forward to support the old man.

Despite having absorbed the memories of the Demon, Ye Fei remained a filial person—as unaffected in this regard as ever.

Thus, he smiled and said, "Old man, you're far too polite. It was all just a misunderstanding; there's no need for this! And please, stop calling me 'master'. My name is Ye Fei. If you wish, you can simply call me Xiao Fei."

"This... This wouldn't be appropriate..."

The old man hesitated to agree, but seeing Ye Fei's gaze, he eventually smiled and said, "Well... Then I shall call you Mr. Ye. Mr. Ye, thank you for helping me earlier. Ah, I'm old now! My body isn't what it used to be! During my days on the battlefield, I was fine, but now..."

As he spoke, a hint of sorrow appeared in the old man's eyes—a clear testament to his dissatisfaction with the encroaching weakness of age, though he had no choice but to accept the inevitability of time.

Seeing this, Ye Fei thought for a moment before saying, "You should avoid visiting cold and damp places in the future; your health could improve significantly."

"Oh? Did Mr. Ye notice something while treating me earlier?" The old man asked curiously.

Ye Fei smiled and shook his head.

The old man, clearly a seasoned soldier, might be able to grasp the concept of cultivation, but ghostly and demonic matters might be harder for him to accept.

So Ye Fei simply said, "Believe me if you wish. Now that everything is settled, I ought to be on my way."

With that, Ye Fei prepared to leave. Though the Soul-controlling Technique allowed him to absorb soul energy, it required prompt refining to fully assimilate the energy; otherwise, it would gradually dissipate.

For Ye Fei at this stage, cultivation was equivalent to saving his life, so he dared not waste any time.

Besides, since the accident, he wasn't sure how long he'd been unconscious; it was time to return and check on things.

But the old man quickly stepped forward and said, "Mr. Ye, wait! You saved me today, and I haven't expressed my gratitude properly yet..."

"No need—meeting is fate!" Ye Fei waved his hand, declining firmly.

However, the old man insisted earnestly, "Even if you're magnanimous, please allow me to show my sincerity. Liu Shan, find out where Mr. Ye is heading and drive him there!"

"Yes!"

Liu Shan quickly nodded and then said to Ye Fei, "Mr. Ye, please let me drive you."

"Well… Alright." Ye Fei sighed and eventually agreed.

Soon, Liu Shan drove Ye Fei in a rugged Hummer, departing Qingyun Mountain and ferrying him all the way to Southern Yuntai City. After respectfully bidding Ye Fei farewell, Liu Shan left.

Just as Ye Fei was about to move forward, his eyes suddenly narrowed.

Before him, a group of people was entering the house he had temporarily rented. Among them was someone he recognized—the father of Bai Meng, whose four senses he'd stripped away.

The leader of Yuntai Black Tiger Hall, Bai Que!
