Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 Preparations Before Setting Out

["You have built Farmer Camp, consuming wood *40, food *10, estimated construction time 10 minutes, remaining 9 minutes 59 seconds."]

["You have built Bloodthirsty Beetle Insect Nest, consuming wood *20, stone *20, fresh Blood Flesh *30, estimated construction time 10 minutes, remaining 9 minutes 59 seconds."]

The Farmer Camp was a wooden, slanted-roof matchbox, about twenty square meters in size, with only one small window and a small door that a person could pass through.

The Insect Nest, on the other hand, was a conical structure made of twigs stacked on a stone base, leaving a head-sized hole in the front.

The main road was left in front of the tree hole, with the two buildings placed on either side of the main road.

After building these two structures, Bai Yi's wood supply was nearly depleted. This was only possible by including the fallen branches within the territory's boundary, leaving just 11 units in the trading column.

The fallen branches visible to the naked eye in the territory had all disappeared, leaving it much cleaner.

However, with nothing to do while waiting for the buildings to be completed, Bai Yi decided to pile up the bones in the territory and clear out the camp.

The open space seemed large, but since the bones were naturally piled together, it saved the trouble of searching. After tidying up the bones, Bai Yi roughly estimated the size of the open space.

"With this tree here, it's hard to tell, but now walking around, I realize it's actually as big as half a playground. Thank goodness for the shade, or I'd be cooked in the heat!"

After piling the last few rib bones to the side of the giant tree, the two buildings were completed just in time.

["Due to the special nature of the consumed materials (Second Tier Giant Boar Pork), your structures Farmer Camp, Bloodthirsty Beetle Insect Nest have undergone unknown changes"]

"?"

Could the meat of a Second Tier creature actually lead to some kind of mutation?

["Farmer Camp (1st Rank/White): Can consume food to recruit units [Farmer], can optionally consume wood and stone to equip recruited units with [Stone Hoe] Upgrade requires: Stone *40, Wood *80, Food *20, Iron *10"]

["Bloodthirsty Beetle Insect Nest (1st Rank/Green): Can consume fresh Blood Flesh to recruit (breed) units [Bloodthirsty Beetle] Upgrade requires: Second Tier Crystal Core *1, Fresh Blood Flesh *100, Beast Bone *100, Beast Hide *10"]

There was nothing abnormal on the panel, but the initial units that came with the two Barracks quickly emerged. Bai Yi glanced over the panel and saw the soldier information for both the Farmer and Bloodthirsty Beetle.

...

Seeing the Farmer's appearance, Bai Yi understood what "Sturdy Build" meant.

"These arms are almost thicker than my thighs...

Is Second Tier Blood Flesh really that useful!"

The Farmer had a burly frame, her gray and white clothes were short-sleeved, exposing her arms and thighs, fully showcasing her strength.

Bai Yi had no doubt that they could swat her to Death in one slap.

The Insects on the ground, however, didn't seem anything special. Their bodies were predominantly black with a faint blood-red metallic glow, resembling a cool inverted bowl.

Though only the size of a human head, their attributes weren't inferior to the sturdy Farmers, signifying their powerful nature.

*No way, can't start celebrating midway, need to test their effectiveness.*

Bai Yi glanced around and spotted a small wild boar she had brought back, which was now trying to sneak out of the territory.

"Go! Take it down!"

With a wave of Bai Yi's small hand, the five Beetles on the ground shot out like cannonballs.

Within barely a hundred meters, nearly a second after Bai Yi gave the order, the Beetles pounded the little piglet like cannonballs, sending it flying five or six meters away.

The subsequent Beetles quickly followed, their sharp teeth biting into the little wild boar.

All five Beetles clung onto it, fervently gnawing at the wild boar's Blood Flesh, but since there was no lethal damage, the wild boar could only feel its Blood Flesh being torn apart while constantly wailing.

"Ugh—"

This brutal scene made Bai Yi a bit fearful, but she quickly turned excited.

"Mass production! We must mass-produce them!"

With such a powerful Insect protecting her camp, how could it not be secure?

Bai Yi immediately opened the panel, took out 15 units of Blood Flesh from the trading column, and tossed them into the Insect Nest.

The birth of new Beetles would take another 15 minutes. The wait time on the panel somewhat calmed Bai Yi's excitement.

Nearby, the two sturdy Farmers, without specific orders, started acting on their own. One went to clear the grass in the open space, while the other ran into the woods to gather branches.

Seeing this, Bai Yi was very satisfied. In her heart, she hoped that these laborers could always be this diligent, while also feeling a bit guilty.

The distant wailing wild boar had also quieted down. The five Beetles had already begun to cooperate, disassembling the boar bit by bit to transport it back to the Insect Nest.

Since the birth of Beetles was still pending, Bai Yi wasn't about to rush out with just the five Beetles she had, and after calming down, she couldn't help but worry.

*With just these Insects, what if we encounter a Mutant Creatures that we can't take down quickly? Furthermore, the Mutant Creatures we've encountered today don't seem like something these Beetles can instantly kill.*

*And if they can't be taken down instantly, I'll be in danger!*

After thinking it over, Bai Yi decided to focus her attention on the Farmers.

According to the panel's description, the Farmer Camp could recruit Farmers equipped with stone hoes. Even if the stone hoe wasn't very effective, it would at least count as a long weapon, and with their robust physique, they could serve as a meat shield quite well.

The most crucial point being, even if not for combat, as long as Bai Yi intended to farm, the stone hoe would be of use sooner or later.

She once again took 2 units of meat from the panel, along with 1 unit each of stone and wood, and tossed them into the Farmer Camp.

During the waiting time, Bai Yi decided to inventory her resources.

Including the 548 units of pig meat remaining in the trading column, there was currently the following in the warehouse:

Giant Boar Pork *548, Second Tier Crystal Core (Giant boar) *1, Giant Boar Bone *521, First-tier Beast Bone *871, Second Tier Beast Bone *229, Wood *11, Stone *191, Complete Rice *1, Iron Knife *1.

Her Talents at the moment included 4 gene entries, which were: Sensitive Smell, Thick Fat, Oviparous, Iron Feather.

The first two were from a Mutant dog, while the latter two were from a Mutant chicken.

"Iron Feather is temporarily useless since there's nothing with hair, um, feathers, in the current territory.

Oviparous could be given to the Farmers, hmm—

Could Oviparous get rid of the menstrual cycle?

But laying an egg regularly seems strange too, oh well, since there's no Magic Power right now, we'll postpone it.

Thick Fat seems useless now, the Beetles won't use it, perhaps it should be put on the Farmers?"

Looking at the sturdy figure pulling weeds in the distance, Bai Yi quickly shook her head and dismissed the image of them turning into a fat person from her mind.

*No, no, but Sensitive Smell seems pretty good, I can add it to the Beetles.*

Thinking of this, Bai Yi also remembered the Endless Moss placed in storage. At that moment, her Magic Power had recovered to 63 points, enough for one gene extraction.

"Judging by this, the Magic Power seems to recover at roughly one point per minute."

Estimating a rough figure, Bai Yi took out the petri dish from the storage, using her superpower to probe inside, consuming Magic Power.

["You've used the skill Gene Extraction. The current target has extractable genes: Photosynthesis, Acid Secretion, Infinite Multiplication"]

......

Bloodthirsty Beetle: A type of Mutant Creatures found in the southern woodland wastelands, usually led by one Insect Mother and suspected of having a unique soul connection. Upon discovering prey, it often summons a large group of its kind to launch an attack on the target. It is omnivorous and highly dangerous.
