Digging Girl gave Bai Fu two maps, one was of the current Goli Desert and the other was a map before it became a desert; both maps had a conspicuous red cross marked at the same coordinates.

Next to the red cross was a note written by Digging Girl.
After examining the maps, Bai Fu discovered that the location of the research institute used to be a seldom-visited valley, but after the "Great Catastrophe," the Goli region had completely transformed into a desert. So there were no longer any hills, valleys, or cliff faces—just sand as far as the eye could see.

Without the map feature provided by players, it would have been difficult to unearth that research institute using the pre-catastrophe maps of the Goli region.
