They took some distant photos and marked the location on the map before planning to leave.
Unfortunately, they didn't get very far before they ran into a pack of wolves.
There was a sizable pack, likely more than twenty wolves.
The pack tracked them for three days, and despite their best efforts, they couldn't drive the wolves away. They dared not sleep too soundly at night, for fear that the wolves might overwhelm them.
Because of the wolf pack, compounded by some vehicle issues, they decided to stay by a small lake overnight to repair the vehicle and replenish their freshwater supply.
Unexpectedly, the wolves launched an attack that night.
"At that time, we didn't have many weapons to defend ourselves; we even used torches to hit the wolves. We also lost two sleeping bags."
In the chaos, they hastily left, driving through the night with a malfunctioning navigation system, losing their direction and incredibly running into a group of resting wild yaks.
