Chapter 153 - Chapter 153: Vampire?

Lu Mei and her younger brother drove themselves to the Clear Sky Hunter Agency.

As soon as Lu Jun stepped inside, he noticed that the people in the lobby downstairs were all present.

Inside, Old Bao was sitting on the couch reading a newspaper. Outside, a cute little twin-tailed girl, Lingling, was perched on a high stool, swinging her legs as she rapidly tapped away at a keyboard, searching for something on the computer.

Leaning lazily against the counter was a short-haired, cold yet alluring woman with a curvaceous and athletic figure likely Lingling's sister, Leng Qing.

Finally, standing casually behind Lingling while also staring at the computer was Mo Fan.

As the siblings entered, everyone at the Hunter Agency turned to look at them.

Lingling's large, sparkling eyes blinked as she greeted, "Sister Lu Mei, you're here?"

Hearing this, Lu Mei smiled warmly and responded, "How have you been, little one?"

Ever since she advanced to the High-tier last year, she had been frequenting the Clear Sky Hunter Agency. After spending a lot of time with Lingling, she realized that the girl was an adorable little thing and gradually became fond of her.

Of course, Lingling had sincerely apologized multiple times. Once Lu Mei learned that Lingling had been in a bad mood because of her father, the Cold Hunting King's passing, she couldn't help but feel even more sympathy for the girl.

Lu Jun was taken aback. Since when had these two gotten so close?

But this was good he figured that with this connection, it would be easier to seek Lingling's help as a "think tank" in future monster hunts.

The short-haired, cold beauty Leng Qing gave a faint smile, walked over, and intimately wrapped her arms around Lu Mei. She lowered her head, took a deep breath near her ink-black hair, and said, "I don't have time to keep you company I have a mission to carry out soon."

"Who needs your company?" Lu Mei responded, placing her hands on Leng Qing's slender waist before playfully smacking her plump hips. Her rosy face then turned slightly to glance at Lu Jun. "I have my little brother, and that's enough."

At that, the two women separated. Leng Qing looked at Lu Jun with amusement in her eyes and said, "Is he really just a little brother, though?"

Before Lu Mei could blush in embarrassment, she quickly stepped forward to greet her. "Hello, Lu the Butcher. I've heard about you the Judgment Court speaks very highly of you."

Lu Jun gave a humble smile and said, "It's just an undeserved reputation."

On the other side, Mo Fan was dumbfounded by their interactions. In utter disbelief, he blurted out, "What the hell, Lu Jun, you're here at the Clear Sky Hunter Agency too?"

Wait a minute! He suddenly cursed, "Why the hell are you everywhere?!"

He had been at the Clear Sky Hunter Agency for half a year now, taking on small jobs from wealthy urban clients due to his limited strength. Meanwhile, Lu Mei, who had access to internal channels and wealthy mage clients, had never crossed paths with him before.

Lu Jun turned to him, a teasing smile on his face. "You should be calling me Senior Brother now."

"Screw off," Mo Fan scoffed. "What are you here for? Taking on a mission?"

"Yeah," Lu Jun replied before asking back, "And you? Shouldn't you be busy with the Main Campus assessment right now?"

Mo Fan's face twisted in distress. "Ugh, don't even get me started. It's a real headache. They want us to find and capture a Shadow Beast Tamer in the city."

"You know me I don't mind fighting, but I absolutely hate these meticulous tasks. That's why I came here to find my hunter partner, Lingling."

Upon hearing this, Lu Jun understood immediately. Meanwhile, the little loli beside them maintained a neutral expression, but her tiny eyebrows arched proudly clearly enjoying the acknowledgment.

"Well, good luck with that."

Lu Jun shook his head and looked over at his sister. She had already said her goodbyes to Leng Qing and turned to him with a charming smile.

Before long, Mo Fan and Lingling found a lead on the computer and hurriedly rushed out of the Hunter Agency.

Now, only Old Bao and the Lu siblings remained.

At this moment, Old Bao finally put down his newspaper and handed them a mission slip.

Lu Jun picked it up and, upon reading it, was taken aback. "Master Ho Tuo, a renowned magic tool craftsman, is offering either 30 million or a custom High-tier magic tool in exchange for finding traces of a vampire and bringing back one of its fangs as proof. This is…"

"He's an old friend of mine," Old Bao explained, glancing over. "He read about some urban legends regarding certain dark creatures in an ancient book. As a magic tool craftsman, he became intrigued and wants to study the properties of vampire materials to see what kind of magic equipment they could be used for."

"He's had this bounty up for quite some time now and asked me to keep an eye out."

Lu Jun's expression turned thoughtful. He knew who Ho Tuo was just a minor character in the original storyline.

Half a year from now, Mo Fan would end up hunting down a vampire and, as a result, receive a Black Serpent Armor magic tool forged by Ho Tuo.

If his guess was correct, this was that very mission.

Vampires were foreign-born mutants that had long hidden in the dark corners of major cities. Compared to the Lizard Demonesses and other monsters, their overall influence was far weaker.

Mutants were actually a general term for half-monster, half-human creatures. They included the Blood Clan, Werewolves, Mothmen, and even Medusas and Demons.

These beings lurked in the gray areas of society, committing crimes and treating ordinary humans like livestock. The rulers of every city were well aware of their existence but were unable to deal with them effectively.

As Lu Jun dug deeper into his memories, he discovered a blind spot. His expression turned grim. The original story had not delved deeply into this particular subplot.

The Vampire of the Great Commander Level that Mo Fan had slain was nothing more than a scapegoat discarded by a vampire family.

Mo Fan was a sharp individual he only targeted the primary culprit. If he had pursued the matter further, he might have ended up dead without even knowing why. There was undoubtedly more than one Commander Level figure backing this.

The key issue was that, as Lu Jun recalled more details, he realized that this vampire case was faintly connected to Ding Yumian!

What exactly was going on?

Beside him, his sister Lu Mei was reading through the employment contract. She frowned and said, "The employer hasn't provided any information at all. Are we supposed to search blindly like finding a needle in a haystack? It's hard to determine whether this mission is even worth taking."

"I actually do have additional information."

Fortunately, Old Bao retrieved another file.

The siblings flipped through it. Lu Mei's frown deepened, and her beautiful face filled with anger. She slammed the stack of documents down and said furiously, "So many people have died."

Lu Jun reviewed the cases various incidents of women disappearing late at night or dying unexpectedly.

All the autopsy reports attributed the deaths to pre-existing medical conditions leading to sudden fatalities, making them appear completely normal.

But upon closer examination, one disturbing pattern emerged the victims covered all types: young girls, teenage girls, mature women, and even married women. The only common traits they shared were being healthy and beautiful.

Women. Beautiful. Healthy. Sudden Death.

These four keywords, when linked together, felt undeniably suspicious.

Lu Mei had initially been weighing the cost-effectiveness of the mission, but after seeing the gruesome crime scene photos, she couldn't help but feel a personal connection to the case.

After all, she was also a beautiful woman. She had encountered her fair share of filthy gazes before and was well aware of the dangers of walking alone at night.

Now, an opportunity to act had presented itself, and since it was a paid mission, there was no harm in attempting to resolve it.

However, she didn't make the decision alone. Instead, she turned to her younger brother this was a joint mission, and she couldn't be too self-centered.

Lu Jun pondered for a moment before saying, "Let's take it. I know where the breakthrough point is, so we won't be wasting any time. The cost-effectiveness is very high."

"Alright!" Lu Mei had great trust in her brother. Without hesitation, she tore the mission notice from the board.

As they stepped out of the Clear Sky Hunter Agency, she asked, "Where to next? The police station?"

"I'm going to visit someone's house, and you're going to find Ding Yumian to ask her something about vampires."

Lu Jun gave the instructions calmly. Since he knew the plot, he didn't intend to take any detours. He would get straight to the point.
