Just as she was about to push the needle into the red cloth, a soft voice called from outside the door.
“Miss Hwayeong, it’s Siyoung.”
Recognizing the name of Seonhwa’s attendant, Hwayeong quickly turned toward the voice and responded.
“Come in.”
At her brief command, the door opened, and Siyoung entered carefully, carrying a tray covered in a yellow cloth.
She closed the door behind her, bowing respectfully.
Hwayeong waved her over with a welcoming smile.
“Come closer. What brings you here?”
“Miss Seonhwa’s uncle sent some rice cakes and dried fruits today. He asked that they be shared with you, so I’ve brought some for you, Miss.”
“Oh? Really?”
At the mention of food, Hwayeong’s eyes sparkled.
Sohwa, watching her with a mix of mild dismay and resignation, cleared the ink and papers from the table.
“Perhaps the embroidery frame should be set aside too.”
“Just have some while you work on it.”
Said Sohwa sternly, making it clear there was no chance for distractions.
