Another five days passed, yet Might Guy still hadn't found that elusive feeling.
During Wednesday's training, Might Guy, Shisui, and Obito gathered to discuss their progress in mastering the breathing techniques.
"Guy, you should try imagining the feeling of eating a bowl of hot ramen, with the warm air flowing into your belly," Obito suggested, attempting to share his successful experience with Might Guy.
"Guy, you can refer to Obito's explanation, but stick to what Sensei Mokuzuki taught us. Even if they're all breathing techniques, there must be some differences between them," Shisui added.
If the techniques were identical, Sensei Mokuzuki would have had them all learn the same one. There was no need to complicate things by splitting them into different methods.
"Yeah, Sensei Mokuzuki mentioned that my progress is still within the normal range. Earth Breathing is supposed to be more challenging than what you guys are learning," Might Guy replied with a nod.
His mindset was unwavering. After all, only ten days had passed.
When learning the Clone Technique, it had taken him nearly the entirety of his second year before he could produce a fully functional clone indistinguishable from the original.
That had been almost three years of effort, yet he hadn't given up or stopped trying. Ten days was practically nothing to him.
Even if it took a thousand days to succeed, as long as Mokuzuki didn't redirect him to train in something else, Might Guy would keep at it. He firmly believed that relentless perseverance would eventually lead to success.
After all, he was the "Genius of Hard Work" recognized by Mokuzuki!
"Heh heh, well, Guy, you better work hard! When it's time for the sparing test in three days, I won't be going easy on you just because your breathing technique is harder to master," Obito teased with a sly grin .
The summer training camp was nearing its end, with training wrapping up on Friday and a final sparing exam scheduled for Saturday.
Even if his breathing technique wasn't fully mastered, Obito knew it would still enhance his abilities. That advantage meant Guy wouldn't stand a chance against him.
There'd be no need for crafty Clone Technique tactics—Obito planned to win with sheer strength.
"Ha ha! Battles where you give your all are what youth is all about!" Might Guy flashed his signature dazzling smile and gave Obito a thumbs-up.
Guy wouldn't appreciate being let off easy. In his eyes, only a battle fought with everything you've got is truly worth it.
That afternoon, after training ended, Might Guy returned home.
Seeing his son drenched in sweat, Might Duy burst out laughing.
"Guy, you've been training hard again today, haven't you? Stay here; I'll go buy some meat to cook for you. You're at the age where a hearty diet is essential!"
"Just grab some cheap vegetables. Money's tight, isn't it?" Might Guy said hesitantly.
Duy was only a Genin, often without a team, and D-rank missions weren't consistent. Guy didn't know all the details of his father's work, but he was well aware of their strained finances.
"That's not something for you to worry about. All you need to do is focus on your training!" Duy gave Guy a thumbs-up and a reassuring smile before heading out.
After a moment of thought, Might Guy decided to follow his father.
If money really was an issue, he could step in and convince Duy to buy even cheaper ingredients.
Guy trailed Duy to the market.
When they arrived at the butcher's, Duy asked, "How much is the meat per pound?"
The butcher stood up, glanced at Duy, and replied, "100 ryo per pound."
"How many pounds do you need?" the butcher asked, picking up his knife.
Instead of answering, Duy started haggling.
"Come on, it's late in the day. The meat's not exactly fresh anymore—100 ryo is too steep."
"Alright, I'll cut you a deal—97 ryo per pound," the butcher countered after a brief pause.
"That's hardly a discount! I'll check out the other stalls," Duy said, turning as if to leave.
"Alright, alright! Let's say 93 ryo per pound," the butcher hurriedly called after him.
"80 ryo per pound," Duy countered firmly, shaking his head.
"Dropping it by 20 ryo? That's ridiculous!" The butcher scowled, clearly displeased.
Once again, Duy pretended to walk away.
"Fine, fine! 80 ryo it is. But I can't go any lower—I'd be losing money!" the butcher relented.
"Great! Give me 40 ryo's worth," Duy said with a triumphant smile.
"Just 40 ryo's worth?" The butcher paused mid-cut, incredulous.
"I've never seen a ninja so stingy and good at haggling!" the butcher grumbled.
"Thanks for the compliment!" Duy gave the butcher a thumbs-up and a bright smile.
Nearby, two passing shinobi sneered.
"A perpetual Genin will always be a perpetual Genin. Wasting so much time just to buy 40 ryo of meat!"
"With his skills, it's no wonder nobody hires him for missions," the taller ninja scoffed.
"If I were a client, I wouldn't trust a ninja like that with my tasks either—weak in ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu, and behaving so oddly to boot," the shorter one chimed in.
Duy, unfazed by their insults, simply smiled and gave them a thumbs-up before heading home to prepare dinner for Guy.
While Duy remained indifferent, Might Guy, who had been hiding nearby, was seeing things.
He recalled an incident three years prior when Duy had been mocked in a similar way. That time, Guy's anger had driven him to confront the bullies, only to get beaten up. It had been Kakashi who rescued him.
Now, faced with the same scenario, Guy didn't know if he could take on these two shinobi or if Kakashi would conveniently show up again.
But this time, none of that mattered.
Because the meat Duy had just bought? Not a single bite of it would end up in Duy's mouth. He'd let Guy eat it all.
For a father like that, Might Guy couldn't tolerate anyone's ridicule.
Guy tailed the two shinobi until they reached a quiet street.
"Five," he declared coldly.
The taller ninja turned to see Guy, dressed in the same tight green jumpsuit as Duy. "What are you babbling about, kid?"
"This kid's from the Academy, right? Looks like he's just
"Yeah, makes sense—a perpetual Genin and his loser son," the taller one sneered.
"I have a rule: anyone who insults my father gets five punches. You've said five things, so..." Guy raised five fingers, his face stern.
"Kid, you better leave before I lose my patience. Do you even have the strength to throw five punches?" the taller ninja asked disdainfully.
Guy answered with his fists.
