Chapter 161 - Halftime show III

Twitter's Top Trending Topic in the USA:

1. Ethan Jones

2. Super Bowl LVI

For the first time ever, the Super Bowl was not the number one trending topic in the United States. This was unprecedented. The biggest event in American sports, the holy grail of television ratings, had been dethroned—not by another sport, not by a political event, but by a 24-year-old pop star.

As the news spread, the United Kingdom, America's favourite rival, took full advantage of the moment. If there was one thing the British loved, it was mocking American sports. And now, seeing that a single musician had overshadowed the biggest event in the US, they were having a field day.

@LovelyOFnp: Okay, everyone, I have a crazy stat for you. Enjoy, my people.

This single tweet ignited a firestorm of online banter.

@MaestrosIlassico: So what I'm getting is... Britain = Ethan, and Ethan > Super Bowl? Thank you, RT now.

@John: But why are we even surprised? The Super Bowl isn't really that special. It's only big in the USA. Ethan is already global. This is normal, really.

@SHTC: Wait... the Super Bowl is happening right now?? Why didn't I know about it? Also, @John, that list isn't even global—it's just for the USA. 😭

@N_C_2005: Ethan trending more than the Super Bowl is just insane. Is this guy that good? Let me go listen to his song right now.

@Constellation_Derp: (📷 Picture of World Cup 2018 vs. the last five Super Bowls combined.) Need I say more? Oh wait, I do. (📷 Picture of Champions League Final 2021 vs. Super Bowl LIII.) Ratio.

The Americans weren't having it.

@Dennis_Dindayal: The only reason Ethan is trending like this is because of the Super Bowl. He's literally there, interacting with the crowd. That's why he's trending so much.

@AlmotazbllahAhmed (replying to @Dennis_Dindayal): Ethan is just bigger than the Super Bowl, mate. No need for long talks.

@Dennis_Dindayal (replying to @AlmotazbllahAhmed): Do you really believe that? The Super Bowl is watched by over 100 million people. Ethan doesn't have a single social media platform with that kind of reach. He's NOT bigger than the Super Bowl. The most-watched event this year—now also the most talked about, thanks to you lot.

@MaestrosIlassico (replying to @Dennis_Dindayal): Dude... the World Cup is happening this year. Y'all are about to see real numbers.

@cwjk: Ethan Jones took a picture with my phone. Please, if you're the one who caught it when he tossed it back, return it. I'm begging you, my whole life is on that phone. I'll pay for it.

@Noir_D07 (replying to @cwjk): How much?

@DRACO_INVICTUS (replying to @Noir_D07): Dude, are you seriously asking for money? Just return the phone.

@Noir_D07 (replying to @cwjk): How much? Answer.

@cwjk: Show proof you have it.

@Noir_D07 (replying to @cwjk): (📷 Picture of Ethan Jones smiling at the camera, a massive crowd behind him.) And I don't want money. You're cute. Let's hang out after the game. P.S. You should really learn to lock your phone. 😉

Inside a moving tour bus, Rebecca wasn't letting this moment slip by.

Rebecca, Ethan's manager, was a veteran in this game. She and her newly appointed assistant were all over social media. She had been waiting for a moment like this. She knew exactly what to do.

With rapid-fire precision, she started uploading exclusive pictures of Ethan onto his official social media accounts. Retweeting fan posts, engaging with non-offensive memes, and even posting a throwback video of Ethan laughing with Taylor Swift.

Over on TikTok, she uploaded never-before-seen footage of Ethan joking around with Eminem, teasing new music, and even a clip of him accidentally spilling soda on his own shoes.

She was milking this moment for all it was worth.

Meanwhile, the Twitter war raged on.

@CesarMontemayor: So we all just gonna ignore the fact that Ethan bodied the Super Bowl in its own country? 💀

@BenKitterman: *Super Bowl LVI opening act: "America's biggest night in sports"

Ethan Jones: "Hold my trending tab." 😎

@TehStorm: I swear, if Ethan drops a surprise song tonight, Twitter is finished. The servers aren't surviving this.

@JxcksonV: BREAKING NEWS: Ethan Jones is now officially recognized as a sport. 🏆

While Ethan was still addressing the crowd and enjoying the moment, the NFL commissioner was rushing to find Dwayne Johnson to kick things off, while others reacted to the unfolding events.

The stadium was supposed to be electric with anticipation for the Super Bowl kickoff, but instead, it was complete and utter chaos.

Every single fan had abandoned their seats, huddled together in one massive swarm near the front of the field. Coaches were losing their minds, desperately trying to call their players back to the sidelines, but it was no use—nobody was paying attention.

"Hey! Focus! The game starts in fifteen minutes!" Rams head coach Sean McVay shouted, waving his arms like a madman. No one even looked at him.

On the opposite side, Bengals coach Zac Taylor was practically red in the face. "Ja'Marr! Joe! Get over here! Stop looking at—who even is that guy?!"

That guy, of course, was Ethan Jones. A newbie in the music industry, fresh-faced and still adjusting to the ridiculous level of fame he was somehow racking up. The entire stadium wasn't just interested in him—they were obsessed.

Right in the middle of the field, Ethan stood waving his hands at the crowd, still engaging with the fans. The Super Bowl—the biggest sporting event in America—was about to start, but it had officially taken second place to a popstar who hadn't even released his second album yet.

The sports stars, the celebrities, the coaches—none of them could believe what they were witnessing.

Aaron Donald had his arms crossed, shaking his head. "Man, I put my blood, sweat, and tears into this game, and a dude with a microphone just stole the whole show."

Jalen Ramsey leaned in, squinting. "Am I supposed to know who that is?"

In a Vip seat, Kevin Hart was doubled over, laughing hysterically. "Oh my God. Oh my God. Y'all mean to tell me this man came out here and hijacked the Super Bowl before it even started?! That's legendary! I LOVE IT!"

Shaquille O'Neal, standing next to him, laughed so hard his shoulders shook. "Bruh, I thought he was one of those TikTok dudes. I ain't never seen a crowd switch up like that in my life i need to get him to my afterparty."

"Nah, nah, y'all missing the bigger picture," chimed in Snoop Dogg, adjusting his sunglasses. "That kid got power. Real power. I gotta get him on a track."

Up in the VIP section, Jay-Z sipped his drink, eyebrows raised. " Isn't that the kid Puff is obsessed with, that kid's got some pull, hmm he is intriguing."

Meanwhile, Conor McGregor, who had been invited to the game, stood near the tunnel looking absolutely baffled. "I thought this was a feckin' football game, not a concert! Who the hell is that lad?!"

Online some Celebrities had started talking,

Stephen A. Smith, never one to stay quiet, chimed in:

@stephenasmith: I mean, WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE?! This is the SUPER BOWL! The biggest game of the year! And we're out here waiting on a pop star?! This is blasphemous!

Pat McAfee, former NFL punter turned media sensation, had his own take:

@PatMcAfeeShow: I respect Ethan Jones, I do. But my God, I never thought I'd see the day when the Super Bowl was put on pause for a singer. Unreal.

Meanwhile, Adin Ross, streaming live to thousands, couldn't resist:

@adinross: Yo, is The Rock about to hit Ethan with the People's Elbow so we can finally start this game?!

Speaking of The Rock…

Dwayne Johnson stood at the entrance, ready to walk out and deliver his iconic Super Bowl kickoff speech. He had been pumped for this moment, but even he was thrown off by the insanity unfolding before him.

That's when the NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, stormed over, looking like a man trying to keep his life from falling apart.

"Rock, go start now," Goodell ordered, gesturing toward the field.

The Rock hesitated, glancing at the crowd still fixated on Ethan. "Uh, are you sure? Because it looks like—"

"Don't worry. They'll compose themselves when you start," Goodell said quickly. "I'm going to meet him now."

The Rock raised an eyebrow but nodded. "Alright, boss. Your funeral."

With that, he adjusted his sunglasses, cracked his knuckles, and stepped onto the field, ready to do what only The Rock could do—bring back the focus to the Super Bowl. Or at least, try to.

The entire stadium was still in chaos when, out of nowhere, Ethan Jones—yes, the guy who had unknowingly hijacked the Super Bowl—decided to return to his seat. No explanation, no dramatic exit, just a casual stroll back to where he was originally sitting, as if he hadn't just derailed the biggest sporting event in America.

Then, before anyone could process what had just happened, a booming voice echoed through the stadium.

"FIIIIINALLY... THE ROCK HAS COME BACK TO THE SUPER BOOOOWL!"

The crowd, who had just settled down, erupted again, but this time in recognition. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stood on the field, microphone in hand, grinning like he had just saved the event from total collapse. Up in the VIP section, the NFL Commissioner was already making his way toward Ethan, muttering, "Alright, time to put some order back in this thing."

Meanwhile, The Rock was still in full hype mode. "It's time for the most electrifying event in sports entertainment! It's time for... THE SUPER BOWL!"

Back in the players' section, one rookie nudged his teammate. "So, uh... we're playing today, right? Just checking."

Kevin Hart, still processing everything, shook his head. "Man, I need to start singing or something. This is ridiculous."

And just like that, the Super Bowl was back on track. Kind of.

Ethan Jones had absolutely no idea about the chaos he had just unleashed in the stadium. Completely oblivious to the madness he had caused, he was now comfortably seated next to Billie Eilish, swaying slightly as Eminem shot him a look.

"Please watch over him," Eminem said in a low voice to Billie before taking his seat a few rows down. Billie, who had seen her fair share of spaced-out artists, just smirked. "Yeah, sure," she said, nudging Ethan lightly.

Ethan blinked, looking around with a dopey smile. "Yo... this is crazy. Like, crazy crazy."

Billie chuckled, pulling her hoodie over her head. "Yeah, dude. It's the freaking Super Bowl."

As the game resumed, Ethan wasn't exactly paying attention to the players or the plays—no, he was entirely fixated on something else. The moment the fighter jets roared across the sky in a perfect synchronized flyover, his eyes went wide like a kid seeing Disneyland for the first time.

"OH MY GOD! DID YOU SEE THAT?!" he practically yelled, gripping Billie's arm. "THEY'RE SO FAST! THAT WAS INSANE!"

Billie laughed at his reaction. "Dude, it happens every Super Bowl."

"I don't care," Ethan said, eyes still locked on the sky as if the jets would magically reappear. "That was the sickest thing I've ever seen. I need to ride in one of those."

The game continued, but Ethan still wasn't paying attention. He kept turning to Billie, cracking jokes about the crowd reactions, the way the coaches were yelling, and how the players looked like action figures in real life. Billie found herself laughing more than she had in a while.

Then came the halftime show. As the lights dimmed and the stage started forming in the middle of the field, Ethan finally snapped back into reality—or at least, some version of it.

"Yo, yo, yo, this is it! This is where they go crazy!" he said, bouncing in his seat.

Billie grinned. "You better not scream louder than me."

"No promises."

The music started, and the stadium exploded with energy. Ethan and Billie were both on their feet, vibing to every beat, Ethan waving his arms dramatically and mouthing the words to every song, even when he didn't fully know them. Billie was cackling beside him when he confidently sang the wrong lyrics.

When the camera panned across the sea of thousands of fans all jumping in unison, Ethan suddenly went quiet. His usually bright expression softened into something more serious, his eyes locked onto the view of the massive crowd, the sheer scale of the event sinking in.

The sound, the lights, the energy—it was overwhelming, but in the best way possible. He muttered under his breath, almost as if speaking to himself.

"I would love to be there one day."

Billie, hearing him, turned slightly. "You will," she said simply, nudging him again.

Ethan exhaled deeply, still mesmerized. For the first time that night, he wasn't just a trending topic, a viral moment, or a popstar caught in the whirlwind of fame. He was a dreamer, staring at the future he desperately wanted.

And right there, in the middle of the Super Bowl, surrounded by screaming fans and flashing lights, that dream felt just within reach.
