His body was broken, his black wings torn from his back, and his eyes lifelessly looked up at the sky. His weapon was embedded in the ground beside him, its light dim and dreary.
Arella's breath caught in her throat, and all the strength fell from her knees as she fell, cradling him in her arms.
"Varziel. No. Please." She patted his cheek, which had long grown cold, "Please say something, please look at me."
At that moment, a wind blew and a voice whispered through it, 'Why did you abandon us? Arella. Look at what you did.'
"I didn't," Arella choked out, gripping Varziel's body closer to her. "I would never abandon those dear to me." Her body felt like it was growing cold, "This is not real. There is no way this is real."
She could feel her heartbeat thundering in her ears. She could feel her head become light headed, and she could feel her entire body grow weightless once more. Varziel's body fell out of her hands.
