They only needed to project the answer onto the White Ball or resonate it into the inquirer's mind using Magic Power to achieve accurate searches.
Incidentally, the transmission between White Balls was also realized through a Secret Treasure of the fairies. The reason White Balls were filled with mist was to cover the activation of the Secret Treasure, so humans would not detect the hierarchical leap made through the Secret Treasure's turnover.
