Davon stood frozen in the hallway, his hand tightening into a fist at his side.
His chest ached as he watched Angelus press his lips against Cassiel's.
The male smirked when they pulled apart, eyes flicking toward Davon as if mocking him.
Davon turned away before Angelus could see him. His heart pounded, his breath unsteady.
He had sworn to protect the grand prince, but who would protect him from this pain he was feeling from watching the prince and his lover.
Footsteps echoed behind him. "Davon."
Angelus's voice was soft, almost hesitant. Davon swallowed hard before facing him. Green eyes filled with concern met his own. Davon knew that look. Angelus felt guilty.
"Is something wrong?" Angelus asked.
Davon forced a small smile. "Nothing, Your Highness."
Angelus's gaze lingered on him, searching. He sighed. "You don't have to pretend."
Davon flinched but quickly covered it up with a bow. "I'm here to guard you. That's all."
