The door had barely shut before Davon was moving. He didn't think, he just acted, pushing himself off the bed and striding toward the exit.
His pulse hammered in his ears, and before he could talk himself out of it, he yanked the door open and stepped into the hall.
Daemon was already halfway down the corridor, his back straight, his pace unhurried, like the conversation they'd just had meant nothing.
"Daemon," Davon called, voice rough.
Daemon paused, glancing over his shoulder. His expression was frozen but his eyes gleamed with something sharp. "I thought I told you to sleep."
Davon ignored that. He took a step closer, fists clenched at his sides. "Who was it?"
Daemon blinked. "Who was what?"
Davon's jaw tightened. "The person who left you behind."
For a second, something flickered in Daemon's gaze, something cold, and buried. Just as quickly, it was gone, replaced with a smirk so effortless it made Davon's teeth grind.
