Chapter 75 - Water Conservation

Cassidy collapsed onto the training mat, chest heaving as her breath escaped in rapid, shallow gasps. Sweat glistened along the delicate curve of her neck, trailing tantalizing paths over flushed skin. Above her, Raten stood grinning, sweat trickling down his temples and dripping off his chin. His bright eyes sparkled with admiration as he extended a rough hand to her.

"Hell yeah!" Raten cheered, pulling Cassidy effortlessly to her feet. "Told ya you could do it! That last rep was badass."

Cassidy leaned against him for a moment, her smile bright, cheeks rosy from exertion. Her chest heaved gently as she caught her breath. "I thought my arms were gonna give out," she panted, brushing strands of damp hair from her eyes.

"Not with me watchin'," Raten murmured, his voice low and playful as he tilted her chin up, capturing her lips in a quick, enthusiastic kiss. He pulled away reluctantly, handing her a cold water bottle.

Cassidy drank greedily, a mischievous glint lighting her eyes. "Keep talkin' tough, Raten, and I might just challenge you to another sparring match."

He chuckled, swiping the back of his hand across his mouth. "Don't tempt me. And I won't hold back just 'cause you're cute, Cass."

She tilted her head coyly, stepping close to him and poking a finger into his chest. "Good. I'd be disappointed if you did." Her voice dropped to a whisper, and she raised an eyebrow suggestively. "And trust me, I won't take it easy on you just because you—" Just then she strained her body, stretching her neck out as far as she could, balancing on her tippy toes to reach closer to Raten's ear. The second half of her sentence, whispered into his ear so that nobody else could hear. As she spoke, his jaw dropped, and a look of shock washed over his face. After she finished speaking Cassie smirked devilishly, and stepped back. Raten choked momentarily blushing as his head swung from left to right, checking that nobody else nearby had heard her words. Upon the realization that the coast was clear, he cleared his throat and straightened.

Raten's eyes narrowed curiously, intrigued yet suspicious. "Think you can handle me?"

She flashed him an impish smile, turning gracefully toward the door. "We'll see, big guy, I think my track record speaks for itself."

He watched her walk away, eyes trailing appreciatively along her figure, lingering on the rhythmic sway of her hips. Her ponytail swayed gently, catching the light as she reached the door. Suddenly she paused, glancing over her shoulder. Cassidy's eyes met his, sparkling mischievously. She winked, and Raten felt a deep, rumbling growl of desire rise involuntarily in his chest.

"Damn tease," he muttered under his breath, smirking as adrenaline surged. "You're in for it now."

Without another thought, he sprinted after her, heart racing from more than just the workout. "You're on, woman!"

A short while later, the training hall was a buzz with the murmers of eager onlookers and regular admirers. Cassidy wiped sweat from her brow, chest heaving as she circled Raten in the echoing expanse of the Blade training hall. Her vibrant hair clung damply to her cheeks, eyes narrowed but sparkling with anticipation as she sized up her opponent.

Raten, standing casually with arms folded, cracked his neck side-to-side, a crooked grin etched onto his rugged face. "You look tired already. Need a break, sweetheart?"

Cassidy scoffed lightly, spinning on her heel, body tense and poised. "I'm pacing myself. Not my fault you flail around like a berserker. You burn energy twice as fast as a human bonfire."

Raten chuckled deeply, voice reverberating warmly around them. "That's because I'm always ready to heat things up." He lunged suddenly, moving with shocking speed for his massive build.

She sidestepped fluidly, like a dancer avoiding his charge. Pivoting swiftly on one foot, she sent a sharp jab to his ribs, making him grunt softly. Cassidy giggled lightly, playful taunts tumbling off her tongue. "Looks like the bonfire missed."

Raten snorted, smiling with a gleam of delight in his eyes. "Teasing me, Cass? Careful, I might enjoy it."

She rolled her eyes playfully, feigning exasperation. "You're impossible."

"And irresistible," he shot back, winking.

Cassidy launched herself at him, leg sweeping low, but Raten saw her coming, catching her by the waist mid-air. She twisted quickly, slipping his grip, but he grabbed her again, drawing her tightly against him, his grin broadening mischievously. She squirmed, laughing, her attempts to escape half-hearted at best.

He leaned close, his breath warm against her ear. "Give up yet?"

"Never," she whispered defiantly, and then suddenly shifted, sliding smoothly from his grasp and pivoting to sweep his legs out from under him. Raten stumbled, surprise flickering across his face as he toppled onto the mats.

"Nice move," he groaned appreciatively, pulling himself back up.

She stood proudly, smirking down at him. "What was that about giving up?"

He grinned wolfishly. "Point for you. But playtime's over."

With renewed determination, Raten launched forward again, moving with reckless abandon. Cassidy dodged and parried, landing clever blows and laughing at his frustration. Eventually, exhaustion won out, and Raten caught her by the waist, lifting her triumphantly into the air.

"Alright, you win!" Cassidy gasped, her laughter bright and breathless.

Raten lowered her, setting her gently onto her feet, his smile wide and triumphant but tender. "I always do."

Panting lightly, Cassidy brushed back her hair, flushed but happy. "We both need a shower."

He arched an eyebrow, smirking suggestively. "Care to join me?"

Cassidy tilted her head, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "Actually, you should come with me. We'll save water."

Raten's playful expression flickered momentarily into surprise. "Wait, seriously?"

"Do I look like I'm joking?" Cassidy challenged, eyes gleaming mischievously.

"Hell, why are we still here?" Raten replied without hesitation. Without warning, he scooped Cassidy off her feet, tossing her easily over his shoulder as if she weighed nothing.

Cassidy erupted into a fit of giggles, pounding lightly on his back. "Ahh, Raten, put me down! Stop it, Raten!"

He laughed exuberantly, ignoring her mock protest as he strode boldly toward the exit. "Nope, too late now. Water conservation is important!"

The sounds of her delighted protests echoed down the hall behind them, fading gradually into silence, until only the warm echo of shared laughter lingered in their wake.
