Chapter 47 - XLVII: Interrogation.

Raiden attempted to exploit the connection he had established. Now that he was linked to the villain's mind, every direct thought of this villian was free for both, Kaina, the detective that entered the room with them and Raiden to hear.

This would only continue until the man realized he was unintentionally communicating telepathically. If he noticed his thoughts were leaking to the two heroes, he could start blocking them out and the interrogation could end.

That was the limitation of Raiden's ability—he couldn't dig through someone's mind at will.

The human brain was an intricate web of neurons, and even with his powers, navigating it was like trying to force his way through an endlessly shifting labyrinth. A task that massive required a quirk specifically designed for deep mental intrusion, something he didn't possess as far he know.

'Tsk. You really think I'm gonna fall for that 'helping me' bullshit?' the villain thought bitterly.

Raiden remained silent, ensuring he didn't send a response back. If the man suspected his thoughts were being read, he might become more guarded. Instead, Raiden waited, forcing the villain to voice his resistance out loud.

"Not interested. Get me my lawyer."

The words came without hesitation, his tone flat and dismissive.

Kaina didn't even flinch.

"He's on his way," she said smoothly as if she had expected the answer.

"But in the meantime, let's continue this conversation, Mr. Nakamura." She leaned in slightly. "August Nakamura. A well-known engineer in this company. Yet for some reason, you were working as a director assistant. Strange, isn't it? You didn't seem to mind not being working in your specialty."

Her words were deliberate, probing. She was watching for any flicker of emotion, any hesitation that could hint at the truth.

"Now, tell us about your role in this organization," Kaina continued, her voice calm but firm. "We already know you hold some importance here. Where is their main base? And who is your boss?"

Raiden sharpened his focus, stretching his telepathic senses to catch any stray thoughts or subconscious flashes of memory. The man remained silent, his expression unreadable. But while his lips refused to move, his mind was far less cooperative.

'They're crazy if they think I'll say anything about them. I owe them everything. Even if I wanted to talk, I couldn't. I know nothing. The only reason I moved up the ranks was because the last assistant died.'

The villain's face remained impassive, but the thought was enough. Kaina didn't need him to speak—his mind had already given her the confirmation she was looking for.

"Alright," she said, shifting gears without missing a beat. "If you won't answer that, let's move on to something else." She glanced at her notes before locking eyes with him.

"You mentioned the name Edward," she continued. "And you confirmed that he was—what was the term you used?—an Apostle. So tell me, Nakamura, how many of them are there?"

Raiden listened carefully, waiting for the man's mind to betray him once more.

The man smirked but said nothing.

'That's actually a pretty good name for the executives. Now that I think about it, they've already captured one… so that means only six are left. Ooh, and Edward is going to lose his shit when he finds out about this.'

As his thoughts wandered, his unfiltered ramblings echoed in the minds of the three people in the room. They remained silent, watching him closely, as if waiting to see where his train of thought would lead.

Kaina, however, had no intention of waiting.

"Apart from his super strength, what other abilities does Edward have?" she asked, her voice sharp and to the point.

The man chuckled under his breath, finally breaking his silence. "He's just strong—absurdly so. But more than that, he has ridiculous luck. No matter how much of a disaster his plans turn into, they always work out in the end." His smirk widened. "And if I had to guess? He's already moving. You screwed up his plans, which means he's coming."

It was the first time he had spoken out loud, and the confidence in his tone was unmistakable.

He wasn't just stating a fact—he believed in it, as if Edward's success was inevitable. He met their gazes, his expression smug, as if daring them to challenge what he had just said.

Lady Nagant didn't take the bait. She ignored his arrogance entirely, cutting him off before he could ramble any further.

"And who is your real boss?" Kaina pressed. "The one behind the creation of the potentiation drug?"

At that, the man's amusement vanished. The smirk faded, and his eyes hardened as he stared at them.

That hesitation was all Raiden needed. He tuned in, letting the man's own thoughts betray him once again.

'These idiots. It's not a drug—it's a miracle. It will push us beyond our limits, make us evolve into something greater, and abandon our human shells. And him? He's not just a boss—he's a lighthouse, guiding us to the future. There's no way I'll sell him out. Not that it matters. They'll never find him. Only a handful of us even know where he is... or where he lives, such idiots, they really thing I had such privilegy.'

Raiden's expression didn't change, but inside, he was already piecing the information together. They were getting closer, it was turn for the second interrogation, this man couldn't help them more, and they were against the clock, it was best to move to the bigshot now that they knew Raiden Quirk worked to interrogate.

The next interrogation began much like the previous one. Once again, they tricked their target into lowering her guard, making her unaware that her thoughts were bleeding into Raiden's mind. That part was easy enough — but this time, the subject was different.

The woman's mind was sharper, more disciplined than the man they had interrogated before, to put it in words, her thoughts were more evasive.

Inside the dimly lit room, the lead detective, Kumawara, stood at the back with arms crossed, observing. Kaina and Raiden took the lead, facing the woman across the table. According to August — their previous subject — she was one of the so-called executives.

"Tell me your name," Kaina said, her voice was extremely calm.

The woman remained silent, her face blank. Her mind, however, well, it wasn't nice to Kaina.

'As if I'd tell you anything, you purple bitch. The second I open my mouth, you'll twist it against me.'

Kaina leaned in slightly. "Your partner already gave us some of the basics," she continued. "He said your name is Erika. That you're from England. He also confirmed you're one of the top executives in this operation."

The woman's posture stiffened, but she still refused to speak.

Kaina didn't stop. "He told us there are a handful of you at this rank, seven, and every single one of you follows your leader with near-religious devotion. Unfortunately for you, your 'partner' didn't know much about the man himself. But, lucky for him, what little he gave us was enough to cut a deal. So, let me ask you — do you want to cooperate and get your own deal, or would you rather be left holding the bag when this all comes down?"

For the first time, Erika's mask cracked. Her eyes widened ever so slightly, and though her lips stayed shut, her thoughts erupted like a storm.

'That son of a bitch… he actually betrayed us? After everything? After I trusted him? After I— Her thoughts faltered for a second, laced with personal bitterness. 'I even let him into my bed, and this is how he pays me? He's dead. I'll tell Edward and Andrew. No—Richard. Richard will make him suffer, he will burn him slowly. No one betrays Father.'

Kaina glanced at Raiden, who gave her the faintest nod. They had just scored three valuable pieces of intel — two names, and a Quirk, this was clearly important, tied directly to their mysterious leader.

Kaina pressed forward. "So now we know about two of the executives. Edward and you— let's start with him. What exactly can he do? We already linked him to multiple attacks over the last two years. If you help us track him down, we could see about dropping the charges for the most recent incident."

The woman's expression didn't change, but her mind kept talking.

'Hah! Like that would matter. They have no idea what else I've done. Not that I'm about to betray my own brother — even if he's a brute and an arrogant asshole. Still… this is bad. They know way too much already. Edward's not going to show up here, not after this mess. I think? I hope no. Not yet, anyway. He need to stay away. Father's supposed to send the next shipment — the new stuff — within the month. Edward, Richard, and Emily are all going to be there for it.'

Raiden's eyes flickered as the pieces fell into place. one more name. A delivery. Something new. Whatever this organization was planning, it was bigger than anyone had suspected — and they were finally starting to see the shape of it.

'Shit. If they keep pushing like this, they might actually find them. No... wait. August didn't know the location, and Edward already took care of Carl, so we should still be safe.' The woman's thoughts raced, her mind scrambling to find a foothold as her pulse quickened.

Kaina's voice cut through her frantic thinking. Kaina next words were risky but she questioned.

"Are you absolutely sure you won't cooperate? Just so you know, we're already aware Edward killed the last assistant—someone named Carl. That's what August told us,that just becasue of this he ended as the new assitant of Edward and frankly, the evidence lines up." Kaina's fingers tapped a slow, deliberate rhythm against the table, each sound landing like a subtle threat.

"But that's not all," Kaina added, leaning back slightly. "August also handed over some rather... interesting files. Documents detailing a deal between Edward and your boss. Something about a special product. a product that will soon be trasnported into the city. The same product August used against Mewtwo, my cooworker here. Right now, our intelligence unit is working to verify the details, but you could make things easier for yourself if you fill in the blanks."

The woman's heart skipped a beat. A bead of sweat formed on her forehead, then another.

Her worst fear had just walked through the door and sat down across from her. '

'That idiot Carl—he left a trail. A sloppy, obvious trail. All the documents should had been burned after that fucking penguin died'

Now it was on her to fix this mess. Not for herself—her freedom didn't matter as much as the organization's success. Her "family's" legacy was on the line. She had to buy time and misdirect them.

"If he's already spilled so much, I suppose I have no choice," she said, forcing her voice into something resembling calm cooperation. "I'll take the deal. What do you want to know?"

Kaina gave a small, satisfied nod. "Good. That's a step in the right direction. What we care about the most is what August discovered about the incoming cargo. We know it's related to the drug he used to boost his powers. We need specifics—where and when."

Her mind went into overdrive, juggling facts and lies, weaving them together into a story that would sound believable—but not too complete. She needed them to move at the wrong time, or in the wrong direction.

And above all, she couldn't let them realize that the drug August had used was only a flawed, incomplete version—or that the real shipment wasn't even drugs at all.

'I'll give them a fake delivery date. Something four days before the real one—that gives us just enough time to adjust the handoff. I'll play along, let them think it's a drug shipment. If they believe that, they won't dig too deep into the actual records. I'll even throw them the real name of the drug, but I'll bury it in half-truths and old data. No one needs to know August got a defective dose. I can still salvage this.'

Her plan was set within seconds—but she didn't know one thing. Every single thought she just had was exposed. Every frantic calculation, every desperate twist of logic, lay bare to the people in the room. Kaina, Kumawara, and Raiden—all of them could read her like an open book.

"The shipment," she said aloud, her voice steadying. "It's scheduled for the end of next month—43 days from now. We're bringing in a large supply of a drug called The Advantage."

She paused just long enough to let the name sink in. "The name's simple, but the drug is anything but. It pushes quirks to their absolute limit—forces an awakening of sorts. But the side effects are brutal. Over time, users lose parts of their rationality. They get... unstable."

She could feel the weight of their stares as they processed her words. She was playing her part well—feeding them just enough truth to seem credible, while her real secrets stayed hidden. Or so she thought.
