Chapter 174 - A wall

All of them looked back at Mewtwo, who hadn't moved even a single centimeter. Throughout the entire exchange, he remained floating in exactly the same spot, calm and composed, as if none of their attacks had been worth more than a passing glance.

Then he casually raised one hand above his head.

Immediately, multiple shining stars materialized around him, glowing with a soft yet dangerous light. One after another appeared until there were at least twenty of them floating overhead.

The students who usually trained with him immediately recognized the technique. Their expressions changed the moment they saw it.

Izuku, however, had no idea what he was looking at.

For a brief second he glanced around, hoping someone would explain, but nobody had the time.

And Mewtwo certainly wasn't going to.

Without any warning, the stars shot forward.

They accelerated through the air like guided missiles, homing directly toward the students.

Everyone reacted instantly.

Bakugo propelled himself sideways with explosions. Kirishima dove behind a floating boulder. Reiko redirected several rocks into their paths. Ochako used nearby debris as improvised cover.

Most of the stars collided with obstacles and exploded upon impact, filling the battlefield with flashes of light and bursts of force.

Izuku quickly copied the others.

He didn't know exactly what the attack did, but he knew one thing for certain.

If it came from Mewtwo, it was going to hurt.

So he dodged.

However, one student didn't.

The one nobody could normally see.

Suddenly, a pair of hands appeared in front of one of the incoming stars, and for a brief instant, Toru Hagakure became visible.

Her aquamarine-green hair shimmered under the sunlight, and for a fraction of a second her green jumpsuit could be seen as well. (she did one with her hair)

But that wasn't the shocking part.

Instead of avoiding the attack, she redirected it.

The shining star changed direction and flew straight back toward Mewtwo.

The star didn't explode.

It simply turned around and rushed back at its creator.

Then she did it again.

And again.

And again.

Three more stars were reflected back toward him.

Seeing this, Mewtwo simply raised an eyebrow.

Then, with movements so casual they almost looked disrespectful, he kicked each star away before they could reach him.

The reflected attacks scattered harmlessly across the battlefield.

At that same moment, Kirishima appeared from the side.

Using a massive boulder as cover, he charged forward and slammed toward Mewtwo with tremendous force.

However, before he could reach him, another gigantic stone suddenly materialized beside him.

The boulder collided with Kirishima's projectile and shattered it apart.

Ancient Power.

One of Mewtwo's abilities.

He could simply create massive rocks and launch them wherever he wished.

Yet that didn't discourage Kirishima.

Not even a little.

The red-haired student burst through the debris cloud and immediately unleashed a barrage of punches.

Strike after strike came flying toward Mewtwo.

Mewtwo calmly blocked them all.

His hands moved with precision, redirecting every blow without taking a single step backward.

Not one attack landed.

However, while dealing with Kirishima, Mewtwo was already observing the rest of the battlefield.

From the corner of his eye, he noticed Bakugo gathering power.

Explosions crackled in his palms as he prepared a stronger attack.

At the same time, Reiko took control of several floating stones and launched them from different angles.

Ochako followed up immediately.

She positioned herself above Mewtwo and touched one of the largest boulders nearby, making it completely weightless.

The enormous stone floated upward effortlessly.

Then Reiko seized control of it and maneuvered it directly above Mewtwo's position.

The moment it was perfectly aligned, Ochako released her Quirk.

Instantly, gravity returned.

The giant boulder plummeted downward.

It rushed toward Mewtwo's head like a falling meteor.

Watching the coordinated assault, Izuku couldn't help feeling a chill run down his spine.

It wasn't just because the attacks were powerful.

It was because of how they were fighting.

Every strategy they used was calculated with complete trust in Mewtwo's durability.

The boulder alone probably weighed over a ton.

If it landed on a normal person, it could easily kill them.

Yet nobody hesitated.

Nobody held back.

They simply attacked.

And the reason was obvious.

They all trusted Mewtwo enough to believe he could handle it.

For Izuku, however, that realization was almost frightening.

Because looking at the relentless barrage coming from every direction, he wasn't sure whether he was witnessing a training session...

Or a coordinated attempt to take down a final boss.

However, as he hesitated once again, he heard a familiar voice echo inside his head.

"MOVE. Stop looking like you're watching a movie."

That alone was enough.

Midoriya shook himself out of his thoughts and immediately activated Full Cowling. Green lightning danced across his body as he launched himself forward, finally joining the rest of the students instead of standing back and observing.

At that exact moment, the giant boulder dropped directly above Mewtwo.

The enormous mass of stone rushed downward with enough force to flatten almost anything beneath it.

Yet Mewtwo didn't move.

Not even slightly.

Instead, one of his arms suddenly became engulfed in flames.

The fire wrapped around his forearm like a living mantle, burning bright enough to force several students to squint.

Then he struck upward.

The punch connected with the falling boulder.

Instantly, cracks spread across its entire surface.

A second later, the stone exploded apart.

The flames spread through the rock, shattering it into hundreds of burning fragments that scattered across the battlefield like meteorites.

Mewtwo had effortlessly turned the students' own attack against them.

The debris rained from every direction.

Midoriya, being farther away than most of the others, had more time to react. He quickly adjusted his footing and dodged the incoming fragments.

The rest weren't as fortunate.

Bakugo blasted several pieces apart.

Kirishima hardened himself and blocked the largest ones.

Ochako and Reiko scrambled to redirect whatever they could.

For a brief moment, the battlefield descended into complete chaos.

And Midoriya took advantage of it.

Using the still-floating chunks of debris as stepping stones, he jumped from rock to rock, rapidly closing the distance.

His eyes never left Mewtwo.

Closer.

Closer.

Closer.

Then he attacked.

Midoriya opened with a series of rapid kicks, striking from different angles while trying to create an opening.

Yet Mewtwo blocked every single one of them using only one hand.

The first kick.

Blocked.

The second.

Blocked.

The third, fourth, and fifth.

Blocked as well.

Even the follow-up strikes fueled by Midoriya's current four percent output failed to push him back.

Mewtwo's expression didn't even change.

If anything, he looked mildly bored.

For him, Midoriya wasn't a challenge.

And that realization irritated the green-haired boy far more than he wanted to admit.

He was giving everything he had.

Meanwhile, Mewtwo looked as though he was casually sparring with a child.

The difference between them felt enormous.

Midoriya gritted his teeth and pressed forward, refusing to stop.

However, the instant that thought crossed his mind—

Something hit him.

A fist buried itself into his stomach.

He hadn't even seen the attack coming.

The impact blasted the air from his lungs.

His eyes widened.

Then his entire body was launched backward.

Midoriya crashed into the ground and rolled several times before finally stopping.

For several seconds he could only cough and clutch his stomach.

The pain was intense.

It felt as though all the air had been ripped from his body.

And while he struggled to recover, the battle continued around him.

Bakugo attacked again.

Kirishima charged headfirst.

Reiko manipulated stones from every direction.

Ochako altered the battlefield itself.

Toru repeatedly attempted to approach unnoticed.

Everyone fought.

Everyone adapted.

Everyone pushed themselves.

Yet none of it was enough.

Mewtwo remained exactly where he was.

Sometimes he dodged.

Sometimes he blocked.

Occasionally he counterattacked.

But throughout the entire exercise, he never truly looked pressured.

The fight unfolded quickly after that.

Minutes passed in what felt like seconds.

The students launched attack after attack, trying new approaches, new combinations, and new strategies.

Yet every attempt ended the same way.

Failure.

Eventually, one by one, they began to fall.

Exhaustion accumulated.

Mistakes appeared.

Movements slowed.

And finally, all of them ended up on the ground.

Bakugo was breathing heavily.

Kirishima was covered in bruises.

Ochako and Reiko looked completely drained.

Even Toru had stopped trying to hide her exhaustion.

And Midoriya lay on his back staring at the sky, gasping for air alongside the rest.

Above them, Mewtwo still floated calmly in the same position.

Looking down at the group, he couldn't help but smile slightly.

For all their efforts, all their teamwork, and all the progress they had made...

None of them had managed to land a single clean hit.

"not even one hit damm it" the first one to react it was bakugo" he felt quite grumpy and and stood up from one explosion.

Yet before anyone could continue speaking, Mewtwo did it first.

"It was a good job," he said calmly while looking at the exhausted students spread across the battlefield. "Don't worry. Your teamwork is better, and all of you adapted quite quickly. That's exactly what I wanted to see."

The students remained where they were, still catching their breath.

Even Bakugo, who normally would have complained, was too tired to argue.

Mewtwo floated down slightly, crossing his arms as he continued.

"The rest of the days, you'll focus on polishing your techniques. More importantly, you'll start developing new ones."

That immediately caught their attention.

New techniques.

For heroes, that meant new ways of fighting, moving, rescuing people, and making better use of their Quirks.

"I believe all of you have reached a point where you can start getting creative with your powers," Mewtwo continued. "Stop looking only at the obvious uses. Think outside the box. Quirks are strange things. Even the most straightforward Quirks can evolve into something much more versatile if you learn how to use them properly."

His eyes moved from one student to another.

"Kirishima. Your hardening doesn't have to be limited to defense and just punches."

The red-haired boy immediately paid attention.

"Ochako. Gravity isn't only useful for making things float."

The girl blinked in surprise.

"Reiko. Telekinesis can do much more than simply moving objects or yourself"

The silver-haired girl nodded thoughtfully.

"Toru. Being invisible doesn't mean your presence has to be invisible."

The invisible girl straightened slightly.

Finally, Mewtwo looked toward Midoriya.

"And you... stop thinking only about power. Start thinking about efficiency."

Midoriya froze for a second before nodding.

The lesson ended there.

However, Mewtwo truly meant what he had said.

During the rest of the week before the internships officially began, he pushed them harder than ever.

Every day brought new exercises.

Some focused on combat.

Others focused on movement.

Others focused entirely on creativity.

Mewtwo constantly forced them into situations where the obvious answer wasn't enough.

He made Kirishima fight while protecting others.

He had Ochako manipulate entire sections of terrain.

He pushed Reiko to control multiple objects simultaneously while moving herself.

He forced Toru to deflect energy attacks.

And Midoriya spent hours learning how to move more efficiently instead of simply increasing power output.

The results slowly began to show.

Day after day.

Little by little.

Their techniques became cleaner.

Their reactions became sharper.

Their teamwork improved.

More importantly, they started understanding their own Quirks better.

By the end of the week, the difference was obvious.

When they repeated the same exercise from the first day, the outcome changed dramatically.

They still couldn't defeat Mewtwo.

Not even close.

However, they managed something they couldn't do before.

They forced him to move.

No longer could he remain floating motionless in a single spot while casually blocking everything.

Now he had to dodge.

Now he had to reposition himself.

Now he had to actually pay attention to their combinations.

Several times they even came dangerously close to landing a clean hit.

Dangerously close.

Close enough that Mewtwo found himself smiling.

From his perspective, that was excellent progress.

For first-year students, their growth was remarkable.

And, more importantly, they had started developing the habit of thinking instead of simply reacting.

To Mewtwo, that mattered far more than raw power.

Power could always be increased.

A good mindset was much harder to build.

By the time the week ended, he looked at the group and felt genuinely satisfied.

For most situations they would encounter during patrols and internships, they were ready.

Most common villains wouldn't pose a serious threat to them anymore.

Their teamwork was solid.

Their combat skills had improved.

And their Quirks had become noticeably more refined.

Unless something major happened, they should be fine.

Now, the moment that thought crossed his mind, Mewtwo immediately regretted it.

Because experience had taught him one thing.

Every single time he thought everything was finally going well...

Something happened.
