Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: A Mother’s Love is Forever

Just when I believed we had found safety, the situation plunged into darkness once more. After a grueling battle, my parents bore the heavy toll of exhaustion, their bodies and minds worn thin. Now, we were encircled by the enemy—merciless figures with cold, unyielding expressions, radiating a chilling intent to kill. Their singular mission was clear: to eradicate us, showing no mercy even to their fallen.

As these dark thoughts swirled, I turned to my mother. I could see her fighting against overwhelming fatigue and an inner struggle that weighed heavily on her. Something deeper was at play; she was contemplating a decision that would not only shape our fates but also alter the course of my life forever. The air crackled with tension, and I sensed that her choice would resonate far beyond this moment of desperation.

My father wiped the sweat from his forehead, gripping a shortsword in one hand and a kunai in the other. My mother held me tightly with one arm and clutched her kunai in the other. The tension in the air grew as the four figures faced us, the sounds of distant chaos echoing all around.

Suddenly, lightning split the sky, illuminating the scene. My parents sprang into action, moving faster than anyone I had ever seen. My father's shortsword glinted as he charged at the figure on the left, striking with precision. At the same time, my mother dashed toward the figure on my right, channeling her chakra to enhance her speed. With a fierce shout, she launched four kunai at the attackers, each one aimed true. The fight was on, and the air crackled with energy as the battle began. The moment the kunai left her hand, my mother was already moving. Her fingers blurred through a rapid sequence of hand signs — too fast for my eyes to follow, but I could feel the chakra shift in her body .Her palm slammed against the ground.

"Earth Release: Bottomless Swamp!"

The earth beneath the enemy churned, suddenly liquefying into thick, sucking mud. The terrain collapsed under his feet, pulling at his balance, trying to drag him under.

But he didn't flinch. A cruel grin spread across his face as he sneered,

"Using Earth Style against a Rock shinobi? Foolish."

In a flash, his own hands formed signs. He dropped low and slapped both palms against the ground.

"Earth Release: Tearing Earth Turning Palm!"

The ground roared. Jagged cracks split open beneath him, sending shockwaves forward. The swamp was swallowed up, crushed under surging waves of upheaved stone and soil. Massive chunks of debris burst from the earth, flying through the air with terrifying force. The kunai was deflected mid-flight, shattered by rising rocks. Then the debris turned toward us — sharp, heavy fragments raining down like a storm aimed at my mother. She shifted, body tense, ready to counter — but I could feel the pressure tightening around her, the fight pushing harder with every second. As the battle roared outside the cave, my father charged forward — his blade crackling with electricity, hands steady, heart burning. He went straight for the two enemies ahead, with no hesitation. He slashed at the first one, fast and clean — but the enemy was quicker than expected, dodging just in time and lashing back with a sharp kick aimed at my father's head.

My father ducked low, breath sharp, body moving on instinct. He didn't stop — didn't flinch. He pivoted and launched himself at the second attacker, driving into him with raw force, and tackling him off balance. His blade followed, a blur of movement, and then came the flash of metal — four shurikens flew from his hand in one smooth motion, aiming for the first enemy to keep him off balance.

They clattered through the air — fast, deadly. The fight was a blur of limbs and steel, of sweat and breath. My father was outnumbered, but he fought like it didn't matter. His eyes stayed sharp, every strike measured, every dodge precise.

And then — he shifted tactics. He didn't hesitate.

He pulled a kunai — this one wrapped in an explosive tag — and threw it hard. Right after, he tossed a smoke bomb, the two attacks splitting the air a second apart.

The kunai exploded mid-air — a flash of heat, fire, and force. The cave shook. Smoke flooded the space, swallowing everything in gray. The air turned thick, hard to breathe.

But my father was already moving. I saw his hands weaving signs, fast and practiced.

"Shadow Possession Technique."

His shadow stretched across the cave floor, snaring both enemies in the thick smoke. They froze — stuck, unable to move. He had them.

And then my mother — my exhausted, bleeding, stubborn mother — stepped forward.

She didn't say a word. She just pulled two kunai from her side, eyes steady. Her hand trembled slightly — not from fear, but pain — and still, she threw. One after another. Two clean strikes. The enemies collapsed.

It should've been over. But it wasn't.

Before she could even breathe, the final figure struck. He moved like a ghost — silent, merciless — and in an instant, he was behind her. The blade sliced across her back, deep and brutal. She cried out — not loud, just a gasp — and stumbled forward. I felt her body jolt, the warmth of blood seeping through the cloth I was wrapped in. I didn't understand much yet, but I felt everything — the pain, the panic, the fear in her heartbeat.

My father was there before she fell. He caught her, arms wrapping around her like a shield. His eyes were wide now — full of something deeper than rage. Full of fear. He didn't speak. He just held her close, fingers shaking slightly as he formed another set of signs.

"Earth Release: Earth Prison Dome."

The ground rose around us, a shell of stone enclosing all three of us in silence. It was dark inside—quiet, safe for now. My mother leaned into him, breathing hard, her body trembling. He held her tight, pressing his forehead to hers. There were no words. Just breath. Just pain. Just love, trying to hold myself together in a world that kept tearing things apart.

I could sense her warmth escaping, her heartbeat slowing by the second. I had not known her for more than several minutes, but I sensed something more profound — something inexplicable. A connection beyond time. She was my start… and she was already disappearing. Her arms wrapped around me, her breathing in short, shuddering gasps. Tears streamed down her face as she whispered, voice thick with sorrow and love.

"I'm so sorry, dear… I wanted to hold you longer, to blanket you with love, to watch you smile, laugh, grow… but I can't." She fought for air, choking on her words between sobs.

"I wished to see you learn to walk… to hear your first words… to teach you all. But… I must leave you. I'm sorry… forgive me. If there is a god where I am going, I shall pray for your happiness. Even if I'm not with you… I'll look down upon you. And when you feel alone, just know — I'm here, and so is your father."

She hugged me closer to her chest. I could sense her trembling, sense her hurt, and somehow. I also wept. My little arms wrapped around her with all the might I could muster, trying to hold on. My father hugged us both into his arms. He struggled to be brave, but his body won out — shaking, tearless tears falling down his face. His hold was firm and protective… but I sensed him shattering too.

Her mother turned to him, voice faltering. "Take care of our child… I know it'll be difficult. I know you'll miss me and feel lost and alone. But I'll be watching. Watch him grow… see him walk, talk… see him become the man we imagined. And when you do… tell me everything about it." She smiled weakly through her tears, but her energy was running out quickly.

My father held her close, his voice thick with emotion. "I swear to you, Jina. I will raise him to be everything we dreamed of — strong, kind, and courageous. I will encase him in the love you would have given him, filling the empty spaces you left behind. You were my ray of sunshine in this dark, wretched world. Because of you, I found a reason to keep breathing. Thank you… for being my everything."

Her kiss was soft yet filled with an urgency that broke my heart. She caressed his face, fingers trembling as they grazed his skin for the last time. "Promise me, give me your explosion tag… I'll be the distraction they need." He placed the tag in her hand, his shaking as if carrying the weight of their shared resolve. He understood the silent pact they were forging — her willingness to sacrifice herself for the greater good. He couldn't argue or plead with her, knowing deep down that this was the path they had to take, even if it tore him apart. At that moment, they both recognized the bitter truth: love sometimes meant letting go.

He leaned in close, forehead against hers. "Thank you so much…" he whispered, breaking his voice. Then, with one more glance at her, he scooped me up in his arms — the same way she had just done.

She gazed at me, a last warmth in her eyes.

"Name him… Akira."

My father nodded, voice resolute. "Yes."

Their eyes locked, their last goodbye unsaid but shared.

And then he relocated. Taking a deep breath and a massive amount of will, he created a hand seal.

"Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole Technique!"

The ground beneath him gave way, and a hole opened up beneath his feet. He clutched me close, and we fell into the earth, sliding through it unseen and unguarded. I could feel the vibration of his steps as he rushed through the earth, his heart beating in time with my own.

After what seemed like miles, we emerged — somewhere far in the Land of Fire. The air was icy and dense… and then it arrived.

A far-off explosion boomed behind us — loud, absolute, devastating. We both spun around.

My father gazed in silence, his jaw tight. I could see it in his eyes — the agony, the guilt, the sorrow… and then something else. Steel. Determination.

He shut his eyes tight for a second. Then he wrapped his arms around me a little tighter and whispered, half to himself rather than to me:

"I will protect you. I will live for you. And I will make her proud."

And without saying anything more, he turned away from the village — and ran.

Not to get away.

But to start anew.
