Days passed, and finally, Veronica was sent back home under Daxter's escort. That afternoon, Lucas sat in his study, staring seriously at Daxter who stood firmly across from him. The large polished desk was the only barrier between them.
"How is it?" Lucas asked, his voice calm but full of pressure. "Were you suspected?"
Daxter gave a slight nod, his demeanor still calm. "So far, everything is safe, Sir. But her stepfather, Mr. Clark, had a wary look in his eyes. Like someone observing in silence."
Lucas exhaled slowly, then clasped his hands together on the desk. His elbows rested firmly, his chin now supported by his interlaced fingers.
"What do you think about Veronica's condition?"
"She seems to be going through severe mental shock," Daxter answered cautiously. "I've contacted a psychologist as per your instructions. Mr. Clark agreed to let Veronica be treated professionally. The psychologist began initial observation today."
