The Merulan soldiers quickly sprung into action securing the surrendered enemy combatants and removing them from the battle field. Due to their organized nature the prisoners were all secure within minutes .
" What was I thinking?" Damon said to himself, " I was a fool for thinking that these people would follow the rules of war. The Geneva convention doesn't exist in this world.
But still if he was angry that his army surrendered , he should have trained them better to never surrender to an enemy at least that's what I did."
He then gave an order for everyone to fall back while he walked slowly towards the knights who hadn't surrendered and then called out to the gold armoured commander
" May I know your name o commander".
The commander then answered back " I suppose my future slave should know the name of his master.
I am Zaar, Zaar Ronalla,son of the lion of the east Lord Ronalla.
You have made a mistake showing your face here Damon. I would enjoy putting a leash on your neck."
Damon then took a deep breath and spoke loudly enough for everyone to hear.
" Zaar Ronalla, you might die today depending on your answer.
Bend the knee to me and proclaim me Lord of Ronalla, refuse and your house burns."
"You really believe that you can take this city Damon, you really believe that because a few cowardly rabble surrendered to your pathetic army that you have won . Bring the fire let me see."
As soon as he said that, fire erupted around surrounding Zaar and his knights . At first Zaar thought Damon was foolish and probably he would use his own flames to deflect the flames. But the darndest thing happened. Lightning bolts began appearing within the flames, causing the flames to get almost twenty times hotter than regular flames causing their armor to literally melt on their skins.
Outside the range of Damon's battle or rather the execution of Zaar and his knights, members of Damon's army and even the captured forces watched with a mixtureof of fear , horror , excitement and dread.
His soldiers were thinking that if he could do all this, what was the use of an army.
No rational answer was formed within that moment .
Soon the screams within the flames died down Damon then retraced flames causing a heat wave to roll through the area.
With Zaars death Damon ordered the army to move into the city.
The army moved steadily into the city with their prisoners in tow, chains wrapped around their necks .
The inhabitants of the city watched from their semi close windows and doors with uncertainty.
They waited for their homes to be rushed into , their wives and daughters raped and their coins plundered. But non of that happened. The army just marched into the city quietly.
The city guards had long retreated into the Lord's castle.
By evening they had reached the castle of Ronalla.
Damon then ordered that the gates be bombarded immediately. It took only the first round of bombardment to bring down the gate .
" Storm the castle, restrain everyone and kill anyone who resists." Damon ordered.
Immediately the soldiers stormed the castle , clashing with the knights. Those who surrendered were immediately restrained while the few who resisted were shot on sight.
It was already nightfall when General Barksdale came back to meet Damon, saluting before reporting.
" My Lord, the castle is ours. But unfortunately Lord Ronalla has escaped.
It seems he used a hidden tunnel beneath the castle to escape."
" I thought as much, what are the casualties on our end" Damon asked
"Twenty two injured and no deaths." Barksdale replied
" Quite acceptable " Said Damon walking through the gates of the castle seeing his army standing guard over their captives .
The first thing he did was to heal all the injured soldiers before asking for the family of Lord Ronalla who were then presented before him. The smug condescending look they usually had on their face was non existent. They just looked sullen and downcast .
"Kill them all " Damon ordered before walking into the castle and was led into the Ronalla vaults and he was accosted with the sight of treasures, more than he had ever seen in both his lifetimes.
There were gold and silver bars and coins. There were many precious stones and even some unknown metals.
Soon a well known jeweler and merchant was invited into the vault to appraise the items in the vault and all the items in the vault came to the number of about six million gold coins. Damons net worth which was also the net worth of Merula was only about two hundred thousand gold. This new funds was bound to fast track most of his projects and his further expansion.
By morning Damon's banners had been hoistesd all over Ronalla. From the city gates , the city center and the castle, the banners of red and black . The banners carried the sigil of a sword, a cross and a crow.
The soldiers moved around maintaining order in the city. The prisoners of war were then released back to their families despite protests from general Barksdale . But Damon had used a method of shock and awe . By using such overwhelming power plus the power of the cannons during the battle, those prisoners who were captured would be forced to recount the events of the battle and as all stories spread by word of mouth it was bound to be exaggerated.
That evening all the citizens were at the city center where a podium was raised.
Damon climbed up the podium and addressed the citizens.
" Citizens of Ronalla, I welcome you to a new era. Yesterday, I rid your city of those who would do it harm , the enemies of progress. People who would gain from your labor but refuse to help your needs.
In this new era , no matter who you are or what abilities you have, they are all useful. Even those without magical abilities,man or woman you can achieve anything aslong as you work towards that goal.
In this new era you would be provided jobs , healthcare and housing.
In this era it doesn't matter if you are from Merula or Ronalla, hardwork would be rewarded.
Weather from Ronalla or Merula from now on you are all citizens of Kaduna".
