Chapter 56 - 56: Ocean and Moon Spirits.

"So you are the Spirit of the Moon?" asked Shisui, a little surprised by the words Yue told him.

Even though he 'knew' about her, it was very different to hear these truths from Yue, who told him exactly what she was. Basically, Yue was the human version of the Moon Spirit, which gave her immense power.

How could she, who was the Moon, be incapable of Waterbending? If we count Shisui, someone who has touched the concepts of the Water Element, and every Avatar in history, they would not even come close to Yue's power.

If Shisui imitates water, then Yue IS water. Therefore, some Waterbending techniques that Yue knew were a headache for Shisui. This whole conversation started when Shisui asked her for more details about the ability to see places or people through water.

As the human incarnation of the Moon, Yue was able to do that with the utmost ease, but when she explained the concept of this technique to Shisui, he felt that for the first time, there was something that became extremely difficult for him.

What was Blood-bending compared to these esoteric techniques from the Moon itself? Then Yue explained a bit about why she was like that. She was born with a missing piece of her soul, which caused her to barely react to the outside world as a baby.

How could that happen? She didn't know, but the Spirit of the Moon kindly shared its essence with her, which ended up not only supplementing her soul but also binding her irrevocably to that Spirit.

If we were to get more technical, she would be the direct daughter of the Ocean and Moon Spirits. Because of this, Yue was a person with a rather high spiritual level, one could even say that this made her achieve a different kind of Enlightenment.

"Besides, since we are connected by blood, I can provide you with some protection," Yue said, looking at Shisui fixedly.

"I don't know how you came to interact with so many ancestral spirits, but one of them is very dangerous. I hope you will stay alert," Yue's words made Shisui serious, knowing what she meant.

"Yes, I will keep your words in mind," Shisui replied, feeling that perhaps he had relaxed too much when dealing with Vaatu.

If Raava was an angel, then Vaatu was a demon, which was a crude and simplistic way of looking at it, since both spirits represented many things beyond simple 'good and evil', but it also illustrated somewhat the danger of both entities.

Lately, he did not seem to be giving Vaatu the importance and caution it deserved, so he decided to change that condescending attitude, because after all, he was not a person with a powerful spirit like Aang, nor was he part of the elements like his Aunt Yue; he was a mortal.

This realization that he was still a mere mortal caused some of Shisui's wild emotions to calm down. His mood resembled his name, stagnant, dead water.

The chi that had been in turmoil since his enlightenment, and had been gradually calming down, calmed down completely, reaching stillness. Both Yue and Chang'e watched as Shisui's presence changed a bit, becoming more like a spirit without losing his human nature.

"I told you, my son is the most special son in the world," Chang'e puffed out his chest, quite proud as he noticed the changes in his son's mentality.

"You truly deserve the title of Sage," a male voice was heard in this place, and Shisui looked in the direction of that voice.

He saw a couple, a man and a woman, walking together over the sea. The waves did not seem to affect them in the least, and the distance did not seem to make any sense to them, as they were already in front of Shisui with a few steps.

The man was quite tall, with brown skin and long black hair that seemed to absorb all the light that fell on it, all adorned with a white curl that stuck out quite far. His blue eyes seemed to be quite deep, and Shisui felt the weight of the ocean just by looking at him for a few seconds.

Even he, a person with quite a spiritual connection, had to avoid looking into the man's eyes, feeling that if he continued to do so, he might get lost in the deepest part of the ocean, and although it might seem like a metaphor, Shisui's instincts told him that this was not the case.

"You fool, you scared him," the woman accompanying the man complained.

The woman was just as tall, her blue eyes were much softer than the man's, and just by looking at her, Shisui felt his somewhat wounded spirit fully recover. This woman had long white hair that seemed to shine even brighter than Yue's, but her hair was coiled into two large buns on her head, one of which was completely black, and yet the rest of her hair fell to the ground and spread out over the sea.

"I was just giving her a little inspiration," the man said, causing the woman to puff out her cheeks in silent complaint.

"No, he's right," Shisui said, feeling that the man didn't mean to hurt him; he made him understand some things with just one look, which made him quickly understand the identity of these people.

"My name is Tui, some rude people call me Tu," the woman stared at Shisui, making Shisui feel a little uncomfortable because of the attention the Moon Spirit was giving him.

Yes, this woman was the Moon Spirit, which was quite obvious. La was the man who accompanied her. Shisui did not know why these beings were in human form and in front of him.

"This is just a projection, even though we live in the earthly world, our essence is that of a spirit, young man," La said as if sensing Shisui's questions.

"We've wanted to know you since you were born, you know?" Tui approached Shisui and put her hand on the boy's long hair, ruffling it.

"At first, you simply caught our attention, but nothing more. Then you provoked the Avatars in the earthly world, imagine how scared we were when that happened," La glared at Shisui, as if he was uncomfortable with something.

"Excuse me?" Shisui said with some hesitation, causing Chang'e and Yue to burst out laughing.

"He's just joking with you, they are quite jovial people, Shisui," Chang'e had to say these words to Shisui, who was nervous in front of these two ghosts.

He hadn't felt this way in front of the Avatars or with Agni or the other great spirits, but with Tui and La, he couldn't help but act like a child; technically, he was one in their eyes.

But it was something else, Tui and La felt like concerned and grumpy grandparents, added to the spiritual closeness he felt with them, he just went along with it because in the end, he didn't feel it was bad.

"Not only that, but we had to protect you from the attention of some disturbing entities, like that Koh. Avatar Kuruk's situation was troubling at the time, and we don't want that to happen again," Tui explained, causing Shisui to mentally add Koh again to his list of entities to kill much later.

He didn't like this spirit, not only because of the stories he had heard about it, but also because of its insistence on attacking the partners of important people in the world. Knowing that he might be in that guy's sights, why not get rid of him?

It wasn't that his Mother was against it; it was just that Koh hadn't accepted Vaatu's power, although without the Dark Energy, he was already a known bastard in both the spiritual and earthly worlds.

"Then we saw you get Blood-bending, we thought you would lose yourself in the desire for that power that forces one's control over others." At the mention of bloodbending, La was especially uncomfortable and annoyed.

"La, remember that it depends on how the knowledge is used, you're still so radical," Tui looked at her partner like she was dealing with a small child, which made L roll her eyes.

"Yeah, yeah, but look at that crazy woman..." La remained silent, staring intently at Shisui.

"That'll be your problem, not mine," having decided something, La felt more relaxed, leaving Shisui uncomprehending.

"Anyway, when you reached enlightenment, we were happy." Tui changed the subject directly, not caring about the doubts in Shisui's mind.

"I was surprised when I heard that, I never thought to have a nephew who is not only a Sage, but also an Enlightened one." Yue approached Shisui and looked him up and down.

"Except for a few things, you don't look any different from the others. I thought you had snails in your hair or something," Yue said, and soon Shisui's hand pushed her away.

"Your mother and aunt have known each other for a long time, but we didn't let Yue interact with you in the spirit world because it would be wrong to guide your current growth.

Your chi was wild, as if it was constantly under my influence, and even though that might make you a little stronger, it is an abnormal state that you must resolve on your own.

Your aunt is too curious and restless; she would inevitably talk to you about it if it were something you had to solve yourself. It was only now, when we felt that you would be able to solve this matter on your own, that we let you meet Yue." Tui's words made Shisui carefully feel the changes in his chi.

It was not only calm but completely under his control, allowing him to use his power with a finesse he had never experienced before. It wasn't an increase in power, but he felt that he could now save a lot of energy when it came time to act.

"What do you think of this place?" La asked, noticing that Shisui was paying attention to the others.

"It's relaxing to be here," Shisui answered unconsciously.

"Fine, you can come whenever you want." Just like that, Shisui felt he had permission to enter this place at any time, without having to take advantage of the full moon to fully access the spiritual world.

There was a difference between accessing the spirit world normally and accessing it on a full moon night, so he took advantage of those nights to talk to his mother, who had become a spirit under the influence of Tui and La.

"Why?" asked Shisui, and although he did not give many details, his question was understood by all present.

Why be so kind to him? Why take care of his mother and aunt? Why take care of him? Shisui didn't understand these things, but soon he was hugged by Tui, Yue, and Chang'e, while La simply crossed his arms and looked at him with a small smile.

"Do a father and mother have to have reasons to take care of their children? Agni always takes care of his own. Why can't we?" asked La several times, making Shisui's eyes water a little.

"I hope you can grow up quite a bit, little Shisui. Your path to becoming an independent spirit is the most confusing and difficult thing I've ever seen in my life, but you know you have us to support you," Tui said, wiping the tears from Shisui's cheeks.

"Your mother will always be here to cuddle you and criticize that Fire Nation girl! I hope to have cute and chubby grandchildren soon," Chang'e's words made Shisui laugh in embarrassment.

"You have your aunt to take you out to explore the world and teach you amazing techniques, so come on, Shisui, stand up for yourself." Yue's words made Shisui look at his aunt with different eyes.

For the first time, Shisui felt familiar support. This was different from his bond with Zuko, his love with Azula, his friendship with his other friends, or his connection with Azulon, this was a missing link that filled a space in his heart that he didn't know had a hole in it.

When Shisui opened his eyes, he found himself sitting in a meditative position, barely a few minutes had passed in the real world, but in the spiritual world, he spent a great deal of time chatting and having fun with his relatives.

Now, with a broad smile on his face, he looked to the side where Azula lay, barely covering her naked body with a sheet and looking at him as if she wanted to eat him.

He's happy.
