Darren's POV
Xander went silent, his eyes wide with shock. Maklev sipped his wine behind me and it was clear that a full cup would have been too much.
"I'm shocked to hear that you're in love but I'm more shocked that you let her get hurt. Now I understand your hurry. Let me grab a few things and we'll be on our way."
He drank the rest of his wine, tossing the bowl aside. He covered the drum, walking deeper into the cave. I turned my eyes to Maklev and he was struggling.
His hand clutched his throat, the sweet taste of blood extremely foreign to him. He stared at the cup, torn between finishing it or tossing it to the wall. My bowl was empty so I stood up and faced him.
"Now you see why a full cup would be too much."
I snatched the cup from his hand, drinking the rest in one gulp. A drop drizzled past my lips and I wiped it off with my tongue. It had been a while since I tasted blood so the wine was much welcome. And with the large hunt ahead, I would get my fill.
