Ovelia's POV
Like Ann, I was equally stunned to see Chief Gareth in the dining area. His presence was unexpected, and the stern look on his face made my stomach twist with unease.
"Where are you two headed?" Chief Gareth inquired, his brow furrowed, a blend of curiosity and concern etched on his face.
I hesitated, my mind racing. I wanted to keep our destination a secret, but I knew lying to him would only make things worse. If I tried to deceive him, he'd never let us leave. Taking a deep breath, I decided to be honest.
"Chief Gareth, we need to warn Ace and the others about the witches allied with the bandits. They're heading to the northwest forest right now," I said, my voice trembling slightly.
Chief Gareth's face shifted instantly. His eyes widened, and his jaw tightened as worry etched itself across his features. "I won't let the two of you leave this house," he declared, his tone leaving no room for argument.
