Just then, Han Yu suddenly remembered—there was still a Thanos watching from a distance.
This devoted follower of the Goddess of Death had done countless things for her over the years, yet she had never acknowledged him.
Despite this, he remained willing to serve her. To Thanos, the fact that she had appeared before him at all was already a form of recognition—something ordinary people could never experience.
But to his shock, the Goddess of Death was not only standing before Han Yu but also looking at him directly and even speaking to him. This was a level of attention Thanos had never received. Witnessing this scene firsthand drove him into a frenzy.
"Death, don't you dare have any funny ideas about him! Han Yu mustn't die—there are still so many interesting things he hasn't shown us yet!"
Hearing the Goddess of Death speak to Han Yu, Galacta immediately shielded him. Her words initially moved him, but the more he listened, the more something felt off. So in the end, she just saw him as a tool?
"I have no ill intentions."
The ethereal voice of the Goddess of Death echoed, as if it came from her red lips, yet also seemed to emerge from all directions—profound and mysterious.
"I want you dead!"
Thanos' eyes turned bloodshot. The fact that the Goddess of Death had spoken to Han Yu again sent him over the edge. He brandished his massive blade, infused with the energy of the Heart of the Universe, and charged at Han Yu.
"You are always so irritating."
The Goddess of Death furrowed her brows slightly. Even such a small expression was enough to make Thanos momentarily dazed. The next second, he saw her raise her hand, her slender fingers pointing at him.
At that moment, the powerful Thanos rapidly withered away. His muscles shrank in an instant, his body aged at an unimaginable speed, and in the blink of an eye, he turned into a dried-up husk of an old man.
With a mere flick of her finger, the Goddess of Death caused a gaping hole to appear in Thanos' chest. A heart, glowing with a brilliant blue light, trembled as it floated toward Han Yu, stopping right before him.
"I wonder… would this be enough for us to become friends?"
Her words delivered the final blow to Thanos. A surge of blood rushed up his throat, and he coughed it out violently.
Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine that after dedicating so many years to serving the Goddess of Death, after offering her so much death and destruction, he would ultimately die by her hand—just so his heart could be presented as a gift to his enemy.
Even in death, Thanos' eyes remained open, staring blankly at Han Yu, as if silently asking: Why?
The Goddess of Death waved her hand in mild distaste, and Thanos' shriveled corpse vanished into nothingness.
Han Yu stood there, dumbfounded, staring at the Heart of the Universe floating before him.
He and Thanos had been building up for so long, setting the stage for an epic showdown—a true battle of the century. And then, out of nowhere, the Goddess of Death appeared and simply killed Thanos in an instant.
Now, Han Yu felt as though something was stuck in his throat, unable to come out. He had always assumed that these ancient deities wouldn't interfere so easily, and yet here she was, casually talking about "making friends."
Could he really trust her?
"Goddess of Death… there's a vast difference in status between us. Accepting something like this from you so suddenly—it just doesn't feel right," Han Yu said with a dry laugh.
"You just need to absorb this Heart of the Universe, and your strength will increase once again. Once you've collected all of them, your power and mine won't be too different," the Goddess of Death said calmly.
Her words sent a shiver down Han Yu's spine. If he were on Earth, a statement like that might sound like the other person had feelings for him. But coming from the Goddess of Death, a supreme deity, it felt more like he was being raised as some kind of experimental subject.
Still, Han Yu couldn't refuse. The Heart of the Universe was real—there was no reason to turn it down.
Since Thanos had already been dealt with, the alien beasts ravaging Wakanda were no longer a concern. With a snap of his fingers, Han Yu unleashed the energy of the Heart of the Universe across the land.
The alien creatures under Thanos's command were instantly reduced to nothingness, while the wounded humans were miraculously healed.
Everyone raised their heads to look at the sky. The man standing at the horizon was silhouetted against the sun, his figure bathed in light. At that moment, it felt as though a true god had descended upon the world.
He had utterly crushed the invading forces and restored the wounded, making him appear even more divine in the eyes of humanity.
In this nation that still upheld ancient tribal traditions, many people even began to kneel and worship him, convinced that a celestial deity had truly arrived.
"Whew, that was much faster than I expected."
Ultron let out a sigh of relief. While this wasn't exactly a bloodbath, he had to restrain himself during the fight, considering the many mortals around. Otherwise, if he went all out, both enemies and allies would have been wiped out—a truly ridiculous outcome.
"Boss, what's our next move?" Ultron flew to Han Yu's side and asked.
Han Yu looked at the Heart of the Universe in his hand and said, "Let them handle the rest themselves. We don't need to do everything for them from start to finish."
With that, Han Yu departed, taking Ultron and Galacta with him. Surprisingly, the Goddess of Death followed as well.
"Oh, right. Those two battleships in the sky—send someone to take a look at them later. They'd make a much better command center in the air than anything we could build on the ground."
Han Yu hadn't forgotten about the two massive warships Thanos had brought to Earth's orbit. In this battle, Thanos had met a truly miserable end. Han Yu couldn't help but sigh—being a pathetic, lovesick fool really was a pitiful fate.
In the aftermath, the Green Lantern Corps grew at an astonishing pace. The destruction Thanos had wrought on Earth reignited the flame of justice in many hearts, leading to more people being chosen by the Green Lantern rings.
In just thirty days, over fifty new Green Lanterns had emerged, significantly bolstering the corps. As Han Yu had envisioned, the Green Lantern Corps became the universe's enforcers, dedicated to maintaining cosmic balance.
But that was a story for another time.
A Hidden Corner of New York
Deep within the city, nestled on an unremarkable street, sat a small, inconspicuous general store. Most passersby paid it no mind, though a few would cast curious glances at its peculiar sign.
Because, strangely enough, the store was simply called...
"The General Store."
