Chapter 4 - familiar name

It has been almost a week since the day Peter reconnected with Gwen.

He has also had several encounters with her, and Peter found it amusing to tease the girl.

Peter didn't really understand how he was interacting with her so naturally, but he assumed it was because he kept convincing himself that she wasn't the Gwen from his world every time they met.

Additionally, the relationship between him and Aunt May had become closer than he remembered in the original Peter's life, though he didn't really care about that. Whether it was Aunt May from his world or this world's May, she was still May, and his love for her was immeasurable.

He also conducted some research and discovered that this world lacked Stark Industries entirely, with no mention of Captain America during World War II, nor was there a Hell's Kitchen, Hulk, or anything else.

Interestingly, the Fantastic Four did not yet exist, although the Baxter Building was present.

He speculated that the Fantastic Four hadn't yet gone on their little journey that turned them into who they were. But if they ever appeared and he met them one day-which he suspected would happen-

it would be amazing to be their mentor, now that he was effectively the first hero to emerge in this world.

Throughout the week, Peter had been busy building new web-shooters using some materials he found in their basement. He also made a new suit that retained his iconic spider motif: red and blue with a black spider on the chest and a red spider on the back.

And what Peter was doing now was-

"Wahoo! This is as fun as ever!" Peter shouted as he swung gracefully between buildings.

Yes, that's right. Peter Parker had finally decided to step out and debut Spider-Man for the first time-his first appearance in big New York City.

"Well, dear New York, what do you have for me on my debut night?"

Peter swung quickly toward a massive building and stuck to it. He looked down, observing the streets filled with people and cars.

His Spider-Sense began to tingle, causing a slight prickling sensation in his head. He glanced to the far side, narrowing his eyes.

Usually, his Spider-Sense only warned him if the danger was directed at him, but years of being Spider-Man had taught him otherwise-or at least, in his case.

He had discovered that if he was close enough to a crime, his Spider-Sense would alert him. That's exactly what was happening now.

Peter leapt with force, aligning his body like an arrow, and began descending rapidly. When he neared the ground, he extended his right hand, pressed a button in his palm, and shot a webline toward a building without even looking.

Another benefit of his Spider-Sense was that it could guide him before he even launched a webline. Years of experience had trained his body to react automatically to the subtle tingling, ensuring he didn't aim incorrectly.

Peter swung swiftly toward the location his Spider-Sense indicated. He didn't know the exact cause of the tingling, but his head kept pounding.

He landed on the roof of a building, glanced to the side, and used his enhanced hearing to pick up some conversation from a nearby alley.

"Of course, it's an alley. Should've seen that coming," he muttered.

Peter began descending slowly into the alley while observing the two people arguing there. From their voices, it was clear they were a man and a woman.

He looked at the woman-a young girl with features that exuded unwavering confidence. Peter couldn't help but wonder where such confidence came from.

She had jet-black hair, and her eyes were blue. The light's reflection revealed to Peter that this wasn't her natural eye color; she was wearing lenses, which made him narrow his eyes slightly. But that wasn't his business, so he decided to ignore it. She wore a simple black dress and high heels.

In front of her stood a limping thief, looking exhausted but trying to maintain an aggressive demeanor. He clung to her bag tightly, attempting to snatch it while she held onto it without showing any fear.

"Is that all you've got? Trying to steal my bag? You should've tried something more impressive," she said flatly to the thief.

The thief was angered by her indifferent expression.

"Shut up and give me the bag! I don't have time to argue with you, you little-"

The woman, however, wasn't about to let it end so easily. She stepped closer to him rather than retreating, as if challenging his fear instead of the other way around.

At that moment, Peter was simply watching the amusing scene. He muttered to himself,

"Well, she's definitely not an ordinary girl."

With a single leap, Spider-Man launched from above, sending a webline spiraling around a lamppost. He landed lightly in front of the woman and the thief, standing with his hands on his hips.

"Well, well, what's going on here? Did I miss a scene from an action movie?"

The woman turned to him, her eyebrows furrowed, showing more confusion than fear or awe.

"And who are you? A traveling salesman or something?"

Ignoring her comment, Peter gestured toward the thief, who looked visibly startled.

"Your friend here looks like he just came out of the 'Limping Ants' marathon. Were you two arguing over first place?"

The man flushed with anger at the mockery of his limp.

"Get away from me! This has nothing to do with you!"

Peter placed his hands on his cheeks in mock surprise.

"Oh, but it has everything to do with me. I love adrenaline, and you're definitely the best source of it right now."

Before either the thief or the woman could react, Peter swiftly shot a small webline, binding the thief's legs together.

The man fell to the ground, struggling to free himself. Peter sat next to him casually, as if enjoying the man's struggle against the web.

"Is this guy bothering you? Because if not, I'm just here for the entertainment."

The woman looked him up and down, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

"I don't need your help. I was about to end it myself."

Peter smiled under the mask at her sarcastic tone.

"Oh, I don't doubt that. But I have to admit, I was curious to see how you'd do it."

She glanced at him skeptically before shifting her gaze to the thief, who was still struggling to free himself.

"Well, thanks, I guess... though I'm not sure you deserve it."

Peter chuckled at her conflicting emotions, reminded of certain people from his previous world.

"You're welcome, Miss Mysterious. If you ever need me, just look to the sky... or the newspapers, since I'm new at this."

He climbed the wall, sticking to it, and turned to the woman.

"Well, Miss, I guess this is goodbye. The night is still young for me."

As Spider-Man prepared to leap and swing away, the woman called out behind him.

"Hey, you in the tight pajamas!"

Peter turned to her.

"Hey, just so you know, this suit is pure spandex, not pajamas... Anyway, what? Need a ride somewhere? Spider-Taxi, at your service, if you're friendlier."

The woman scoffed at him.

"You're such a weirdo. What's your name?"

Peter smiled under the mask, wondering when this part would come.

"I'm your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man."

He leapt from the alley wall to the other side. As he disappeared from her sight, his enhanced hearing caught something that left him stunned.

"My name is Felicia Hardy."
