Chapter 1 - An Unexpected Death

Qi Yu opened his eyes.

after he woke up, he found himself lying in a completely white, empty space.

Huh? Am I… alive?

He slowly sitting up and looked around, but there was nothing in sight.

With no landmarks or objects to measure against, he couldn't tell how vast this place was.

…No it's not right.

If he remember it correctly he was hit by that motorcycle.

He had died.

So, the afterlife is just a white void?

He thought there would be something more… like the River Styx in some novel or something.

But he guess not.

For some reason, Qi Yu was surprisingly calm about accepting his own death.

For now, he decided to stay seated and assess the situation first.

Let's see… he was supposed to go to the temple for New Year's with Li Shen.

We drew some fortunes charms, and then, while waiting for the food he wanted from a food stall, Ilhe felt dizzy from the crowd and left the temple early.

He sat on a nearby bench…

Then, even though there were traffic restrictions in place for the temple visit, that motorcycle came barreling in… and…

As he recalled the last moments before his death—

"Have you sorted out your thoughts, Qi Yu?"

A voice called out to him.

He was shocked and turned around toward the source of the voice.

Until just moments ago, there had been nothing there.

But now, a figure floated in the air quietly.

Floating…?!

"Oh? Are you surprised to see that I'm floating? Want me to standing on the ground instead?"

The being spoke in a strangely friendly manner.

Qi Yu was so shocked that he didn't even realize the entity in front of him was responding to his thoughts.

He simply stared at the figure in front of him.

The person—or whatever they were—had golden hair and deep blue eyes and draped in what looked like a white robe.

They appeared to be in their early twenties, resembling a prince straight out of a storybook.

Whoa…! They're glowing…! He've only ever seen characters like this in some novel, but they actually exist?

Qi Yu's face lit up with curiosity as he gazed at the mysterious figure.

"Nice to meet you, Qi Yu. You probably haven't fully grasped your situation yet, so let me explain first. At that moment, when you were sitting on the bench, you were hit by a motorcycle and died. However, the one who was originally supposed to die there… was the motorcycle's driver."

"You weren't meant to die. You took the place of someone whose death was predestined. In other words, your death was an accident—completely unplanned."

"What…? Huh? Then… does that mean my death was…?"

Qi Yu's mind struggled to process the revelation.

Slowly, amidst his confusion, he began to understand.

At the same time, his eyes grew hot with emotion.

His death had been so sudden, so meaningless.

If it had been his destined fate, he might have accepted it without question.
