Chapter 23 - Rafayel's Hidden Potential

Rafayel suddenly felt uneasy about his future.

"Brother… Why did you suddenly come to my classroom?"

Trying to change the subject, Rafayel asked cautiously.

"It's about the magic element testing we discussed with Father. If you went with the rest of the class, your dual element magic would show up, so we decided you'd be tested separately. Did you forget?"

Ohhh! Right! Father did mention that!

"...No, I remembered! I just didn't expect you to come so early."

"I wanted to see you as soon as possible. Whether I came a little early or not, you still had to go to the separate testing room, right?"

Brother, you're getting more and more obvious…

"Yeah… That's true. I also wanted to see you soon, Brother."

Rafayel carefully chose his words while watching his brother's reaction.

As expected, after hearing that, Thomas looked completely satisfied.

Following his now cheerful older brother, Rafayel found himself stopping in front of the director's office.

Wait… Why the director's office?

As he wondered about this, Thomas knocked on the door—without waiting for a response, he stepped inside.

Huh!? Is that allowed!?!?

Inside, the academy's director, his father, and two other people who appeared to be teachers were waiting.

As soon as Rafayel and Thomas entered, the director spoke.

"Congratulations on your enrollment, Rafayel Delmare. Also, It's been a while, Thomas Delmare." The director greeted them before getting straight to the point. "I've heard about your magic element—you possess two elements. I'd like to see them for myself. Would you mind demonstrating?"

So the director himself is going to confirm it...

"Understood."

Rafayel started with water magic.

Just as he had practiced with Tama, he created an ice sculpture and made water flow from his hands.

Then, he prepared for his final task—summoning rain, something he had trained extensively for.

However, just as he was about to begin, the director suddenly stopped him in alarm.

"Wait a moment! What were you about to do just now!? Your magic power just surged dramatically!"

Rafayel blinked in confusion. "Um… I was about to make it rain?"

The director's astonished expression made it clear that this was an unexpected revelation.

Apparently, even skilled water magic users couldn't normally create rain.

Wait, what?! Seriously?!

But Tama made him practice this so much!

What exactly was she making me do?!

He's going to complain when he get home!

"Next, show me your light magic," the director requested.

"Understood. Normally, I would heal injuries, but since no one here is hurt, I will create a protective barrier instead."

After focusing his mind, Rafayel visualized a barrier enveloping the entire academy.

A moment later, he maintained his stance and reported, "I have deployed a protective barrier around the entire academy."

Since light barriers had no visible color, only those with strong magical perception could sense them.

Those with exceptionally high magical power could faintly see a thin membrane covering the area.

The director who is still stunned, muttered, "So this is what you meant by a protective barrier… I thought you would simply create one around yourself at about your height…"

After a moment, he let out a breath. "Alright, you can dispel it now. Gabriel, you never mentioned anything about this."

He turned to Rafayel's father and narrowing his eyes in silent accusation.
