The commissioner pursed his lips and did not speak immediately. He studied Vernon's expression for a while.
He did not know if he could trust Vernon or not.
Then he took his card from his pocket and handed it to Vernon before saying, "This is my card. Give this to Helena. Tell her to contact me when she wants to. We can speak about this matter in private."
Vernon nodded. He did not feel offended. He felt somewhat guilty for speaking with him behind his wife anyway. He also thought it would be better for Helena to have the direct conversation with him compared to having him as a middleman.
Helena had more details after all.
So, Vernon thanked the commissioner and took the card. "I will get Helena to call you tomorrow. I think she would like to meet you as soon as possible. I hope you have free time tomorrow."
"Sure. I will wait for her call."
They parted ways and Vernon drove off with Helena sleeping soundly in the back seat.
