A hush fell again once he registered the meaning of her words. The stream still flowed and the breeze still stirred the leaves, but everything in his world narrowed to her.

Ruediger silently took in the way Lariette looked at him, with her quiet determination, trust and... growing affection.
"Lettie..." Ruediger breathed, voice barely a whisper, "Are you sure?"
Lariette's cheeks pinkened but she gave Ruediger a small, certain nod. Lifting a hand, she settled her palm on his face, her thumb brushing on his skin.
"Yes. Eddy, I want you. I want you more than before."
Ruediger studied Lariette, searching her expression. The same resolute gaze seemed to peer into him.
When he thought this fleeting moment was a dream, her familiar warmth grounded him to reality.
