Chapter 212 - Chapter 212: Gladiators

Currently, the pureblood Targaryen family consists of only three members: 19-year-old Rhaenys, 18-year-old Aegon, and their 16-year-old aunt, Daenerys.

Aegon, raised by many of the defector nobles, received an excellent education. Now, he is being specially trained in his command and combat skills, often fighting alongside the Golden Company.

Rhaenys, the eldest, had perhaps been deeply traumatized by the destruction of her family at a young age, making her introverted and fearful throughout her life. Moreover, a black-haired Targaryen has little influence in Westeros. The people around her viewed her merely as a tool for marriage. Her journey northward to the Dothraki Sea was for her wedding to Khal Drogo.

Khal Drogo is currently the most powerful Khal among all the Dothraki tribes. His followers outnumber those of the second-largest Khal, Khal Jommo. He is known as the Khal of Khals.

Drogo was very pleased with the alliance, marrying the sister of the future King of Westeros, Aegon, which proved his status was on par with that of a king, bringing much prestige. However, during the wedding, Drogo saw Daenerys and thought that the Targaryens had hidden their most beautiful woman, deceiving him into marrying the black-haired sister. He had already planned to kill Rhaenys before the wedding and force himself on Daenerys.

Fortunately, Daenerys and Aegon's dragons were released just in time, breathing fire and intimidating the Dothraki, who had been thrown into a frenzy. Aegon negotiated with Drogo, offering gifts and forging alliances, and with much diplomacy, he managed to convince Drogo to reconsider.

That night, Aegon and Daenerys heard Rhaenys's screams from below the cliff, as her wedding night turned into a violent ordeal.

In the third floor of the vineyard mansion, which housed the owner's luxurious bedroom, Daenerys sat by her desk reading by candlelight while several maidservants attended to their duties. Asha, the captain of the guards, sat on the bedroom couch, resting.

Suddenly, dust fell from the ceiling. Asha quickly stood up, drawing the short axe from her waist and looking up warily at the rafters, but saw nothing—no mice, nothing. There was definitely someone there! Asha was certain. She had just experienced Wright's invisibility spell in the garden, and now, Wright was somewhere on the rafters.

"What's going on, Asha?" Daenerys asked from behind a screen, having heard Asha quickly get to her feet.

"Nothing. My armor's digging into my skin, just needed to move," Asha lied. If Wright had meant to kill, he could have done so already. No one here could stop him, and the fact that he hadn't moved meant Daenerys was safe for now.

However, Asha's brother, Theon, had already betrayed his original oath and the king's orders. Wright could easily label Theon a traitor and bar him from ever returning to Westeros. What's more, Wright himself was here, and could execute both of them at any moment.

Asha took note of where the dust had fallen, formulating a plan to use Daenerys's body to sway Wright's resolve.

Sliding her axe back into her belt, Asha whispered to a maidservant before walking over to the screen. "Your Highness, I've sent for your bathwater."

"Why so early today?" Daenerys asked, glancing at the golden pocket watch on the desk. She always bathed, but today seemed earlier than usual.

Asha naturally replied, "Tomorrow, Your Highness's schedule is quite full. You need to rise early."

"Ah, I see." Daenerys returned to her book, waiting for the maidservants to fill the tub with hot water.

Wright was indeed perched invisibly on the rafters above. His goal today was to carefully analyze the magic within Daenerys. Aside from the Three Eyed Raven beyond the Wall and Renly, she possessed the strongest magic. Moreover, her Targaryen bloodline connected her to dragons, which intrigued him greatly.

Daenerys had a tremendous magical aptitude, with her magic growing naturally over time. She had never received proper magical training, though, and had never learned to use any spells, wasting such a great talent.

The bathwater was ready. The maidservants set the screen in front of the wooden tub, and Daenerys undressed and stepped in, all while being watched from above.

"Send Theon here," Daenerys instructed Asha while splashing water over her body.

"Now?" Asha was surprised.

"Yes," Daenerys replied firmly.

Moments later, Theon arrived, breathless. Seeing the maidservants outside, he lowered his head and spoke in a disappointed tone, "Princess Daenerys, what do you need at this hour?"

Daenerys dipped her hand in the water. "The Dothraki will be here tomorrow. Are the gladiators from Meereen already at the estate?"

They conversed over the tub, separated by the screen.

"The most powerful gladiators in Meereen have arrived at the estate. Three of them are now recognized as the strongest fighters," Theon said, inhaling the fragrant, humid air of the room as his face flushed.

"Good," Daenerys replied. "The Dothraki are savages. They plan to make a move against me. Let the gladiators know that during this match, they must kill as many of the Dothraki as they can!"

Theon was somewhat angered upon hearing this: "These uncivilized barbarians dare to set their sights on you! No need for gladiators, I'll go kill them myself."

Daenerys, as if wanting to sleep, softened her voice: "Thank you for your concern, Ser Theon. You must not risk your life over such trivial matters. We still need to return to Westeros, and I need you."

Hearing the last sentence, Theon immediately perked up. He glanced at the surrounding maids and swallowed his words: "I will never betray the princess's trust."

"Here's a small gift for you, a black stallion wood carving." The wood carving bought from the North was placed next to the bathtub. Daenerys picked it up, washed it with water, and handed it to a maid.

"Ser Theon, this is a gift from the princess." The maid handed the wood carving to Theon and then returned behind the screen.

Theon held the damp, still warm black stallion wood carving in both hands, looking around. The maids were all behind the screen, only his sister Asha was beside the screen watching him. He looked down at the gradually cooling wood carving, licked it, and prepared to lick all the water off.

Asha, seeing Theon like this, turned her head away in disgust.

Theon was licking vigorously, with an intoxicated expression on his face. Daenerys, seeing Asha's expression, smiled slightly:

"Ser Theon, arrange the life and training of the gladiators, you can go back today, I need to sleep."

"As you command, Your Grace." Theon reluctantly walked out holding the black stallion wood carving.

As the captain of the guards, Asha followed Daenerys all the way, knowing she had bought many small gifts to win people's hearts, but she didn't expect Theon to behave like this. Asha was very disappointed with her brother and more worried about Wright on the beam.

Wright saw everything.

Daenerys's face was very beautiful, Wright also admitted.

Young men only look at faces, Daenerys was not tall and rather thin, her fair skin paired with a soft, aggrieved expression, very much able to arouse young men's protective and conquering desires. A hot-blooded young man like Theon couldn't withstand such a test, no wonder he was called one of the three dogs.

But Wright looked at Daenerys's face, and also her entire body, and couldn't muster any interest.

Short and thin, not curvy at all, still playing hard to get. Wright's own wife Nymeria and Tyene, and little rose Margaery, all three were like wolves and tigers, Wright concluded, he actually liked to be passive!

Asha miscalculated, Wright now not only did not sympathize with Daenerys, but instead felt that Daenerys was a dangerous woman skilled at controlling men.

Daenerys knew very well that her advantages were her status and beauty, and she actively used her advantages.

First, she had a handsome lover, Daario, who, to make the Stormcrows follow Daenerys, directly killed the other two commanders and became the leader of the Stormcrows himself.

Then, under the arrangement of her nephew Aegon, she married into Meereen, overthrew the Great Masters of Meereen, made her husband the king of Meereen, and then completely controlled Slaver's Bay. She kept Daario by her side with sweet words.

Later, she met the most wanted fugitive siblings from Westeros, and Theon was completely infatuated with Daenerys's beauty, easily bringing Theon under her control. Now there's also Quentyn Martell, the heir of Dorne.

Daenerys didn't need to give anything, just maintain a close yet distant relationship with these men, keeping their hopes alive, and she gained their unwavering support. With a single command from Daenerys, these men would charge into battle for her, even mobilizing their own forces.

After Daenerys rested, Wright quietly slipped out of the bedroom.

The next day, a small stage was set up on the training ground, surrounded by all the soldiers and gladiators. Daenerys and her husband Hizdahr, along with several long-haired Dothraki, sat on the stage, with fine wine and food laid out before them, and several maids serving behind.

Below the stage were small tables for representatives of other Great Master families from Meereen, as well as close ministers or external force representatives like Theon, Daario, and Quentyn.

An official stepped forward and shouted: "Welcome our guests from afar, Khal Drogo, Khal Jommo, and Khal Moro!"

"Oooohhh~~" A large group of Dothraki cheered.

The soldiers from Meereen also joined in the commotion.

The Dothraki are divided into dozens of tribes, in their language, a tribe is called a khalasar, the strongest or fiercest warrior in the tribe is called a khal, which is what outsiders call a tribal leader.

Daenerys wore a thin veil that only covered the key parts, she sat upright with delicate makeup, her small chest puffed up, the three khals' eyes were all on Daenerys, scanning every part of her body without restraint, indicating their appreciation for her.

Daenerys wore a sheer veil that only covered her vital areas, her delicate makeup applied meticulously as she sat upright, her modest chest held high. The three khals were all watching Daenerys, their eyes shamelessly scanning every part of her body, a sign of their admiration for her. Her husband, Hizdahr, aware that this was a Dothraki custom, paid no mind and continued chatting with his subordinates.

Theon, Daario, and Quentyn glared at the Dothrakis, their eyes nearly spitting fire.

"Today, we celebrate the alliance between the Loraq family of Meereen and the mightiest of the Dothraki," an official announced, proceeding to boast about the process of their alliance, while Wright stood nearby, picking at his ear.

In Dothraki culture, whether it be a funeral, wedding, or any grand ceremony, if no one dies, it signifies that the blessing of the horse god in the sky has not been received.

Woo~~~

A horn sounded.

"Introducing the gladiator from Meereen, Roger Roger!"

Roger had no surname, and his name was arbitrarily given by his slave master. After each victory, the crowd would chant his name repeatedly, and over time, everyone came to know him as Roger Roger.

Gladiators seldom wore armor, or at most, a loincloth to protect their groin or some decorative armor. Roger Roger, bare-chested, wielded a sword in each hand, performing flashy sword tricks and stepping into the arena with an eerie gait, eliciting cheers from the surrounding soldiers.

The warm-up duel began, a one-on-one clash. It wasn't yet time for Wright and the khals to enter the fray. Roger Roger walked into the center of the arena, loudly taunting the Dothraki on the main stage.

The khals laughed without moving, but their bloodriders were eager. One of them, quick on his feet, leaped into the arena first.

Wright asked Buffalo beside him, "In situations like this, when do we get to step in?"

Buffalo replied, "The three of us have the highest value and fame, we're the grand finale, we have to wait until the end."

"Oooohhh~~" The Dothraki on the sidelines erupted in cheers.

"My name is Haggo, bloodrider to Khal Drogo, who else dares to challenge me?" Haggo shouted in Dothraki.

He was massive, even taller than Wright by a head, with a long braid reaching his back, wielding a giant curved sword. At his feet, Roger Roger had been split in two from the middle, now lying in two pieces on the ground.

"I'll go!" Another gladiator with a war hammer stepped forward.

The official quickly flipped through his book, "From Meereen, the gladiator: Paladin! Countless have fallen to his war hammer, even the northern lion has been conquered by him!"

Facing a tall opponent, Paladin believed he had plenty of experience, as he himself was very tall and strong, with a heavy war hammer as his signature weapon, having crushed many skulls.

Haggo, the Dothraki, had no intention of leaving the arena, continuing to taunt Paladin with provocative gestures.

Wright moved through the crowd to near the main stage. From a distance, all Dothraki looked similar, so he needed to get closer to observe the three khals carefully. He didn't know Khal Moro, but he had heard that Khal Jommo had spread word of killing his men, his tribe's strength second only to Drogo's.

Khal Drogo was exceptionally tall, muscular, with paint on his face, and his braid was the longest among them, almost reaching past his hips. He was considered a pretty man, with a scar above his eyebrow.

"Oh!"

"My God!"

The audience gasped in shock. Wright turned to see inside the arena, both men standing, Haggo holding the gladiator Paladin's body, a head flying up in the air. Haggo threw his curved sword to the ground, turned, and with a powerful kick, sent the flying head in an arc, accurately landing in a feed trough in the distant stables.

Only then did Paladin's headless body slowly collapse to the ground. Haggo, having won two matches in a row, was called back by his companions; glory couldn't be hogged by one person, they had to take turns.

"The Dothraki are formidable!" The surrounding soldiers began to whisper among themselves.

Daenerys turned to look at Theon, who nodded slightly and walked towards the gladiators, looking around, "Wolter Yinz, Ehlo Sgard, both of you, go together!"

Theon shouted towards the arena, "Next, our two warriors will enter, bringing an even more thrilling four-man duel."
