The rituals in the technique don't need him to understand or comprehend them. The rituals are more like steps he has to go through to become familiar with weapons. What he understands are weapons, not the rituals themselves.
This has made the technique very difficult to comprehend. But it has also made him proud of the progress he has made. Even though he made significant progress in the amount of karma he earned these two years, he is not as proud of that as he is of his progress in the unification of heart, mind, and body technique.
