The next morning, Mia and Cid got up early. After getting ready, they headed to the filming studio together.
Upon arrival, Cid led her to a man in his fifties, with a kind gaze and a welcoming smile.
— Mia, this is Mr. Harvey. He's in charge of this section of the studio.
Harvey extended his hand warmly.
— Nice to meet you, young lady. Cid has told me about you.
— Nice to meet you too, Mia replied, shaking his hand.
The man observed her for a moment before asking:
— Tell me, what can you do?
Mia hesitated. The truth was, she had never had a specific job. So, after a brief pause, she simply answered:
— I can do everything… and I learn fast.
Surprised by her response, Harvey studied her for a moment before bursting into laughter.
— That's a rare quality! Very well, I'll give you a chance. I'll assign you to the maintenance and housekeeping team. You'll need to be efficient and discreet. Does that work for you?
— Yes, thank you.
Mia immediately got to work, carrying out the tasks assigned to her with dedication. But as she walked down a hallway, she overheard some employees whispering.
— That Caden… still as pathetic as ever.
— Yeah, that guy's a joke. He just takes everything people say without reacting.
— A total coward. We could humiliate him in front of everyone, and he wouldn't say a word.
Mia's heart clenched. They were talking about Caden… and their words were filled with contempt. She knew Caden was a calm person, someone who avoided conflicts. But that didn't make him a coward.
Clenching her fists, she chose to stay silent and continued her work.
During her break, she went to the restroom. But as soon as she entered, she heard the same employees continuing to mock Caden, completely ignoring her presence.
— Seriously, he's pathetic.
— No backbone at all. How can someone be so weak?
— Honestly, I don't even understand how he's still here.
Mia, who had been holding back until then, felt her patience wearing thin. She turned toward them, her eyes burning with anger.
— You should stop talking about Caden like that! You don't know anything about him!
One of the girls raised an amused eyebrow.
— Oh, looks like the new girl has some guts.
The other chuckled and added:
— Mind your own business instead of playing the hero.
Then, without warning, she shoved Mia dismissively.
— Useless.
That word was the last straw.
Without thinking, Mia grabbed the girl's hair and yanked it back violently.
— Say that again!
A scream rang out, followed by a chaotic struggle. The two girls lunged at her, scratching and pulling at her as well. A full-blown fight broke out in the restroom.
The commotion quickly drew the attention of an employee, who rushed in to separate them.
— Stop this immediately!
Mia was panting, her cheeks flushed with anger, while her opponents glared at her.
The incident quickly reached Mr. Harvey's ears. Disappointed, he called Mia in and, without hesitation, contacted Cid to inform him of the situation.
Mia felt a lump form in her throat. She knew she had reacted impulsively, but hearing that Cid was now involved in this mess made her feel guilty.
Now, she had to face the consequences of her actions.
