Chapter 32 - Chapter 32 - The Forever Flame

The first week of the new school year flew by for Felix who once more made the library his home. The evil packets were once again a consent presence in his daily routine, but so was another assignment. Due to giving out books for Christmas that were the first year books, a couple professors gave him the option of doing other years books in a similar fashion or packets.

Naturally he chose the books as writing books were much better than these packets. One of the downsides due to this, he didn't have much energy to write the alchemy books. The other was his weak appearance due to peeking at paths. Thanks to this, both Angel and John, alongside Madam Pomfrey, want to tie him to a bed.

Now inside the classroom where they built the Life Cup last school year. Felix stood next to the wood that he and John grabbed from Hagrid just a short while ago. Upon seeing the bundles, Felix crossed his fingers as he covered his mouth before shooting John a look. A playful idea came to mind as his friend gave a strange look.

"Now that we are about to make fire, we must look the part." Felix said seriously.

"I'm probably going to regret this, but what did you have in mind?" John said.

Felix twirled his wand in his hand as he silently and quickly casted a couple spells.

--

A while later, Angel who showed up after meeting with Professor Flitwick to ask a couple questions gave a strange look at her two friends. Dressed in rough pelt-like work that acted like a small pair of shorts. She noticed their slightly messy hair as they danced around a set of three fires that while burning didn't actually use up the wood or spread.

"What are you two doing?" Angel asked.

Patting their chest, Felix was the first one to say something. In a rough and playful tone, he beat his chest lightly as if beating to the words. Then raised his arms in the air as if announcing the world's greatest achievement.

"We make fire!"

Angel just looked at them both for a moment, before she burst out laughing. John who turned red had to turn away, while Felix fixed their clothes and hair. While he didn't mind the outfit, since they were done making the Gubraithian Fire and he was feeling a bit cold. So he changed their clothes back to normal.

"So onto a more serious note, we now have the Gubraithian Fire ready to go. It took a couple tries but we managed to get it casted." Felix said.

It took about a couple dozen for John, while Felix got it done in about five. Even using other methods to cast this magic, it showed the difficulty of casting it successfully. Thanks to this, there was a small pile of burnt wood stored in the corner.

"I was looking forward to casting this, but you guys already made it for me." Angel gave a small pout.

"Well, the third flame was more for Hagrid's lamp. If you want it, then I will just make another." Felix answered. "He is always helping me pick up materials from the forest, so I thought it would be something nice."

"Oh." is all Angel said on hearing that.

In the end under Felix's careful guidance and John who made another run down to Hagrid's. Angel managed to make her own flame after nine tries. While Felix, looked at the stack of burnt wood or charcoal in this case and wondered if he could use alchemy to combine it with rocks to make diamonds.

It sounded nonsensical, but that was magic in a nutshell.

--

A couple days passed by with Felix once more making himself at home in the library. Not much has happened over the last few days besides going to class and writing homework or books. Once in a while either he or his friends will check upon the Gubraithian Fire mainly to make sure no one stole it.

Hagrid, who received this as a gift from them, was happy, but very surprised at it. It was a very rare piece of magic that some can do. So seeing them who just entered their second year cast it and gave him a piece, it really surprised him.

Yet, as he worked on his charms book, Felix found that the seat across from him suddenly pulled out. Both John and Angel were doing their own thing with John sending a letter to his grandfather and parents. While Angel was seeking help from Professor Slughorn in brewing a potion to put into shampoo.

Her brother James Potter and his friends have recently caused some trouble for her. While she was finishing up her homework in the common room, her brother came up behind her and scared her, causing ink to spill across it. So she wants revenge as she spent quite a bit of time rewriting it as trying to use magic to remove the spilled ink also removed her writing.

"Mr. Grindelwald." A soft, but prideful voice said to him.

Dressed in the Hogwarts black robe with shallow skin with some teeth crooked and a hooked nose. Felix looked up at Severus Snape, whose black eyes seemed piercing. Yet, Felix didn't seem frightened and didn't care all that much about it.

"Congratulations on becoming a famous potion brewer. You will surely go down in history as the one who cured werewolves." Felix smiled.

Over the summer, thanks to Severus' effort, the cure for werewolves appeared in the world. Thanks to this, Voldemort lost quite a lot of support from the werewolves. The ones that remain are the ones like Fenrir Greyback who likes changing others into werewolves or tearing others apart. Quite the nasty person that one is.

"The Dark Lord isn't happy about that or I heard in the common room." Severus replied. "So you probably should watch out for his retaliation."

"Meh, he keeps trying to assassinate me, so it's only right I retaliate at cutting his army." Felix shrugged. "Anyways, do you need the next list of potions? I got it here somewhere in my bag."

Felix began to search his bag for a small packet of potions recipes he prepared for Severus Snape. He hasn't forgotten his end of the deal of preparing the potion recipes for Severus in exchange for the older teen not joining the Death Eaters. Despite the teen terrible personality, he is very talented and talents like him are the last thing he wanted Voldemort to have.

After grabbing the potion, he handed them over to Severus who looked at the stack with a small twitch in his eye. It wasn't so much about disliking, but who knows if some strange potion was mixed in to hurt the Dark Lord army like last time. Unlike Felix, he wasn't very willing to be targeted by the Dark Lord. Afterall, werewolves were only one part of the dark lord army as other species were among them.

Felix watched as Severus took the stack and stood up preparing to leave. Yet, before leaving, he dropped a piece of information.

"Mr. Grindelwald, a letter should be arriving for you soon. The Minister of Magic Assistant, Millicent Bagnold wants to give us the Order of Merlin. It should be second class, but who knows if the Minister will upgrade it as some showcase of power or prestige."

Felix blinked a couple times before he nodded. The reward didn't really bother him that much since the value while still great didn't hold much honor either. Throughout the long history of this reward, many unworthy ones have gained it which devalued it.

'Still why would I be getting an award?' Felix wondered to himself.

While trying to think of the reason, Felix gave up since he couldn't come up with one. He hadn't done anything that deserved it to be noteworthy. Even the cure for werewolves shouldn't be that great for a second or even potential first class.

'Maybe it less about me, and more for politicians to gain a boost in their career?' Felix wondered to himself.

Thinking this should be the case, Felix tossed this matter out of his mind as he went back to working on the charms book.
