Jutsu-wise, the First Mizukage could likely hold his own against Tobirama Senju. But Tobirama's vast chakra reserves, combined with forbidden techniques like the Flying Thunder God Technique, made him a one-of-a-kind force in the ninja world.
After Tobirama finally closed his eyes for the last time, Kakuzu sealed him into a "custom-made" sealing scroll. Tobirama's power was now his to claim—but not immediately. According to the Forbidden Jutsu of Shimera, fully merging and assimilating bloodlines would take considerable time. Kakuzu planned to handle that back at his base.
As he tucked the scroll away and prepared to leave, a weak sound reached his ears.
"Urgh… ugh…"
Golden light flickered weakly as Kinkaku lay sprawled on the ground, gasping his last breaths. Even in his broken state, his physique still exuded a strange resilience. The Kinkaku and Ginkaku brothers had strong constitutions, no doubt. They had devoured the flesh of the Nine-Tails, enduring its chakra without succumbing to its backlash. Not only had they survived, but they had also claimed a portion of the Nine-Tails' power.
Back in Kumogakure, with their chakra reserves, they'd even been able to wield five legendary tools simultaneously. If Kakuzu's guess was correct, the brothers' remarkable abilities likely stemmed from their bloodline. It wasn't just the Senju, Uchiha, or Uzumaki who carried the Six Paths' blood. Who knew how many offspring Asura, the wandering rogue, had fathered after beating up his brother?
Still, even if the brothers were distantly related to Asura, their bloodline was diluted beyond recognition. Kakuzu had little interest in these two madmen. Looking at Kinkaku's labored breathing and pained expression, he began hardening his arm. Slowly, he approached, ready to end the man's suffering with a single punch.
But just as he was about to strike, Kakuzu stopped. Lowering his fist, he knelt beside Kinkaku's body. Despite being on the brink of death, the man still had some value.
A strange red chakra swirled from Kinkaku's body—the unmistakable power of the Nine-Tails.
Kakuzu opened his palm, aiming it at the chakra.
"Dark Release: Chakra Absorption."
The Nine-Tails' chakra was the strongest among all tailed beasts. If he could extract this fragment and recreate a miniature Nine-Tails, like the pseudo-Three-Tails experiments... that would be truly fascinating.
But...
Thud! Thud!
The moment the chakra entered his body, Kakuzu's pupils dilated sharply.
"Damn it…"
He tried to pull his hand away, but it was already too late.
...
Miles away, in Konoha, at the Senju estate,
Uzumaki Mito lay peacefully asleep. Her belly, however, was far from calm.
Deep within her seal, in a dimly lit sewer-like space, a colossal beast slumbered in a massive cage. Nine tails swayed lazily in the air, while a sinister grin spread across its face, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth.
The Nine-Tails chuckled, its malicious amusement unmistakable. Though distant, it could still sense what was happening. Through its chakra, it saw the unfolding scene with perfect clarity.
Meanwhile, Kakuzu's world had gone dark. In the void, two crimson eyes glowed fiercely, accompanied by rows of gleaming fangs.
"Hehehe…"
A voice, dripping with mockery and malice, echoed in the abyss.
"Human, you're the first to step into this domain in centuries. Come, my power lies before you. Conquer it, and the world will be yours."
Nine white doors materialized in the darkness, each inscribed with a single word: 青 (Azure), 白 (White), 朱 (Vermilion), 玄 (Black), 空 (Golden), 南 (Celestial), 北 (Death), 三 (Northern), 玉 (Southern).
(T/N: This refers to events from the movie Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie)
All Kakuzu had to do was touch the doors to claim limitless power.
His eyes glazed over as he approached, hand outstretched. But just as his fingers were about to graze one of the doors, he stopped.
"What's wrong, human? Don't you crave this power?"
The Nine-Tails, reclining lazily with its nine tails swaying, watched him with mocking amusement. Over the centuries, countless humans had tried to claim its power. Even if Kakuzu managed to resist the illusion, the fox was more than capable of playing the long game.
"Heh."
Kakuzu's sharp laugh echoed through the void.
"So, this is where the Kinkaku brothers got their strength."
"Not quite," the Nine-Tails rumbled, its voice dripping with malice.
"They could only wield my chakra because they consumed my flesh. I offered them this gateway once, but they hesitated. Without true power, they fell to you. How ironic, isn't it? Hehehe…"
The fox's meaning was clear. The brothers had only scratched the surface of its power—mere remnants of chakra in their flesh. The true source lay within these doors.
But instead of reaching for the power, Kakuzu lowered his arm. Looking up at the Nine-Tails, he smiled.
"Nine-Tails, this is your collection of hatred, condensed in another realm. Gaining this power would summon corresponding summoning beasts. This technique… it's called the Nine Masked Beasts, isn't it?"
Far away, the Nine-Tails (Kurama) heard the words, and for a moment, he was genuinely stunned. He couldn't quite grasp how Kakuzu had come to know about the power he loathed so deeply. However, as a being who had lived for centuries, Kurama's composure remained unshaken. His expression betrayed nothing.
"Not bad... brat. I remember you," he said with a low growl. "Yes, it was you. I saw you at Hashirama Senju's funeral procession. Your chakra—it's quite unique."
Kakuzu, however, ignored Kurama's words entirely. Instead, he absentmindedly touched his forehead, his thoughts quickly falling into place.
"Nine Masked Beasts..."
This was the summoning technique of Uzumaki Menma, a parallel version of Naruto. Unlike Naruto, Menma had grown up with a loving family, his parents both powerful ninja. Yet, despite this ideal environment, he had chosen a path of darkness and hatred, becoming the ultimate antagonist of his world.
And why had Menma fallen so far? That question could only be answered by the dark Kurama of Menma's world, who had twisted his mind. Menma and the dark Nine-Tails shared a mutual understanding. Menma could freely wield Kurama's power, including this formidable summoning technique: the Nine Masked Beasts.
When the nine manifestations of hatred returned to Menma's body, he could achieve complete Tailed Beast Transformation.
As for why this world's Nine-Tails lacked such a grand summoning technique? The answer lay with the Gold and Silver Brothers. They had consumed part of Kurama's chakra, sealing away his ability. Originally, this power should have been lost forever when the brothers perished.
However, Kakuzu had managed to extract it using Yin Release.
Having pieced everything together, Kakuzu lowered his hand and looked up at the Nine-Tails.
"Nine-Tails?" His voice was sharp. "Are you... a cat?"
"...What?!"
Kurama's initial shock was brief, but his laid-back demeanor vanished instantly. Within the seal, his fiery red fur bristled in indignation.
'This guy's eyes must be broken!'
"You've got some nerve!"
Kurama's chakra surged as he prepared to clarify, but Kakuzu cut him off without hesitation, launching into a tirade.
"The Gold and Silver Brothers might not have been the brightest, but at least they knew you weren't trustworthy. They only took a fraction of your chakra because they understood you're no good."
Kakuzu's tone grew sharper.
"Don't think I don't know your game. Out of all nine Tailed Beasts, you're the most conniving. Always pretending to 'lend your power' to others, when all you're doing is manipulating them for your own gain.
"So tell me, Kurama, isn't your sneaky, underhanded, backstabbing behavior similar to the one I mentioned?"
Kurama was seething, his chakra roaring through the sealed space.
"You dare insult me like this?!"
