Chapter 40 - The Second Year Party

Out of all the characters you can recruit on [Dragon's Roar], three characters belong under the F tier.

One of them is myself, belonging to a class that's useless, poor stats that don't belong on the point of the game you can recruit me. It's no wonder I ended up on the tier called "The Worst Three"

But what about the other two characters?

Well, the second character of "The Worst Three" is in front of me right now.

"And who the hell are you?"

No, it's not that boy, probably the leader of the party, that asked me with annoyance on his voice.

"That badge... he has a pass, Enrick"

No, it's not that other boy, way more muscular and tall than the one I think is the leader of the party.

"But I've never seen him on our year! And it's impossible that first years get the pass this early on" the red-haired boy, Enrick, the one I assume to be the leader, said with venom on his voice.

"I'm sure there's a reason for that, Enrick."

No, it's not that blonde demi-human with fox ears.

I know none of them. They aren't characters in the game.

"..."

It's that short, chin-length black-haired girl that's standing behind the fox demi-human, te one looking to the ground.

Agatha, she belongs to the dark mage class. What makes mage and dark mage different is that the dark mage is slower and has less accuracy but more range and stronger spells.

"I'm Alen, a first year" I showed them my badge "Director Goldenlaw told me that I could join your party to explore a dungeon"

"A first year? Isn't that interesting! The fox girl's ears twitched.

"No way... even Julius took three months for that" the tall, muscular student added.

"Listen up, shrimp!"

"Ackh!" The redhead bumped his forehead against mine.

"You're not coming with us!"

"If he's been approved, then I don't see why he can't come with us"

The tall, dark-blue member grabbed Enrick's shoulder and separated us.

"Fuck off Eusta! I'm not babysitting that first year"

"Is Eusta isn't against the little guy coming with us, then he must agree with us in bringing him with us"

The fox girl clapped and slightly tilted her head.

"Don't you think so Agatha?"

"..." she simply looked away, not wanting to get involved in this.

"She also agrees! So it's a three on one, we win and he can come with us"

"Uh... thanks for letting me join your party. I'll make sure to use my abilities as best as I can"

"My, such good manners"

I feel the same as the first time I interacted with Fran, as if I was a dog for a rich person to adopt.

"I didn't agree on that you Vi-" Eusta covered the redhead's mouth before he could finish his insult towards the demi-human.

"Just call me Vi for now" she held out her hand.

"I have previous experience with goblin dungeons, so I hope that I can help you guys" I grabbed her hand and shook it.

Vi finally and quickly presented the members of this party to me.

"We're ready to leave!" A hooded coachman said as he settled on the front of the horse carriage.

We all sat inside the carriage and we spent some time in getting to know eachother.

While three of them are completely unkoun to me and weren't characters in the game, the classes I'd give them would probably be, knight for Enrick, fighter for Eusta and sister for Vi.

The sister class is the female counterpart to the monk class, specializing in light magic.

"So you can scout ahead and open chests and doors without those little things?"

During these presentations, I've easily established a friendly relationship with Eusta and Vi. But Enrick and Agatha kept they're hostility and silent treatment towards me.

"So you're in the same subject as Julius?"

"Isn't Julius' little brother in your year? What class are you on?"

Agatha kept her close distance with Vi as the fox demi-human kept asking me with her carefree demeanor.

"Yea, Theo's my friend, and we're both on class S"

At least his bodyguard is my friend...

"Class S! That's amazing Alen" the muscular student slapped my back with strength.

"It's not that amazing of a feat..." The leader whispered to himself as he kept looking away.

"You're better than most classes on te second year"

"What do you mean?"

I can guess what she means by it, but I've never heard of such thin on the game.

"An S class on the first year is comparable to a class D on the second year and an F class on the third year"

My guess was proven right.

"That's interesting... but a higher class doesn't mean stronger"

The most obvious case is Theo Der Botcam himself, he stands out because of his intelligence but lacks the strength to win fights.

"At least you have a better way of thinking than most Alen" the tan, muscular Eusta added with a long sigh.

"Ohoho, I'd say that it's a bit boring, but it definetely keep people grounded to reality" the blonde added.

I know that class position doesn't matter, not only because of Theo, but because I exist.

"What kind of dungeon is it?"

"A close space dungeon with lots of undead and spider type monsters, it formed a couple of days ago and we managed to reserve it for us at the last second"

So a cave filled with zombies, skeletons and spiders.

At low level, spiders are the easy but annoying type. Small enough to make it harder to hit them, while being fragile enough to be easily killed, and most low level spiders don't have any kind of venom or poison to be worried about.

"Do you know how to act against them Alen?" Eusta asked me as he noticed how I got lost in thought.

"I studied spider monsters in my monster research classes, but I haven't had the chance to learn about undead monsters"

I don't know how much different the in-game monsters are compared to the real ones. There may be an interaction or a gimmick that a real undead may have.

I could hear Enrick click his tongue and mention how I'm not suited to explore a dungeon.

"Undead monsters are mostly blind and deaf, they can only see mana and that's how they can sense us" Vi explained as he petted Agatha's hair.

"Just like any other monster, just attack their mana stone or kill them like you would any other living being" Eusta added with a smile.

"I see... so sneaking isn't really an option"

I was dissapointed that my best strategy while exploring dungeons won't be useful.

"They're sight range is really small, so you can sneak attack them"

"I think I get it"

After that, we agreed that I'd go forward and scout ahead to see if there're enemies to attack, then I return to the group and they take care of the stronger monsters.

_________

"We're here!" The coachman yelled at us as e stopped te carriage.

"You kids have three hours top to clear this dungeon, any more and I'll have to leave and search for help. In the case that you clear the dungeon while I'm away, you'll have to wait until I come back"

The group let out a "Yea" said I unison, some with more energy than others.

A party of five students, a knight with a sword and shield, a fighter double-wielding axes, a sister with light magic, a dark mage, and a thief.

While it could be better, this party has all the elements of the average team you need to clear a dungeon.

And there it was, the low level dungeon we have to clear.

You can tell the level of a dungeon by the material the entrance it's made of, a stone entrance that surrounds the wooden door signifies a lower level dungeon.

Eusta opened the entrance to the dungeon. Just like any dungeon, once the door opened all there was to see was a pitch black abyss behind the door with an equally as eerie mist.

The first ones to enter were both Enrick and Eusta, followed by me and then the two mages behind me.

And once inside, I was greeted to a familiar sight. The sight of rocks and the slight feeling of claustrophobia that comes with exploring a close space dungeon.

"Thank God there were no monsters on the entrance"

The fighter of the group claimed as he tightened the grip on his axes.

"Alen, can you see anything?"

Thanks to my class passive, my eyes get used to the darkness of a place faster than others.

"Nothing around! But this place has lots of holes, so be careful"

Thankfully, the holes are on the walls and not on the ground.

"You better not be lying shrimp"

The leader told me with an angry but calmed voice, clearly being a lot more accepting on me on the team as he's stuck with me wether he likes it or not.
