Enzo was relieved that she didn't press the issue further, because he had no idea how to even explain it to her. No human had senses as sharp as a vampire's. And he couldn't just say it was instinct—that would be impossible.
Shifting the topic, he murmured against her skin, "Are you sure you want to go home? We can go somewhere else instead—maybe see a movie?"
Adeline paused at that, her lips pursing slightly as she thought about it.
A movie did sound nice. She tried to recall the last time she had been to a theater, but nothing came to mind. It had been ages since she'd last gone to one of those.
She nodded. "Alright."
Enzo smiled, pleased with her answer.
As they stood there, waiting for Andrei to return with the car, a buzz sounded from Adeline's purse, and she dug her hand inside, pulling out her phone.
Evelyn's name flashed across the screen, the soft glow illuminating her face. She hadn't spoken to her in a while, but she wasn't really in the mood for a call right now.
